| Playing 0.50/1.00 stud on party. 0.25 ante and bring in. The game was pretty loose and very passive. Almost no one completed the bring in to a full bet, and occasionally it would be checked around on both 4th and 5th street, even with some people having some scary boards. My opening hand is [9s Qd] Jh, with the upcards being 8c Ad 6d 5s 5h, around in order from my position. The player to my right with the 5h brings it in. With all the queens, jacks, nines, and tens live, and having the second highest upcard, I call. Everyone else calls. 4th street gives me Qh. Other upcards are, starting from my left and working around, 10h 6s As Kd Ks. It's checked to me and I bet, then the player directly to my right with 8c 10h showing raises. A few call and a few fold. I reraise and everyone calls. I pick up the 2h, the raiser picks up the 10c, for an open pair of 10's. Open 10's bets, the other 2 fold, and it's down to me. What's the play here? I was worried he might have caught trips, but figured it more likely that he had made 2 small pair. I called the bet and we both caught a blank on 6th street. He bet again, I called. I picked up a jack for queens up on the river, he bet, I called. Turns out he had Queens and tens, but when he raised me, he held Qs Kh 8c 10h. Strange time to raise. Did I play it alright, or should I have given it up on 5th street? Lee | ||

| I think I would have dumped it, but it depends on what I thought of the player. When he's raising with a board of 8T it screams that he's either holding an up/down draw with all of his outs clean and going for value and deception or that he's on 2 pair. At that point I would relegate myself as drawing to queens up. When he catches the ten on fifth street, I'd be dumping my hand if I thought he was an average low limit player. The only way I'd call there is if I thought he was tricky enough to be betting that hand on the come in which case I would raise him and see what he does. If he came back hard to my raise I'd then dump it, but if he sheepishly called, I'd put on the pressure on the next street - unless a scary straight card fell. As it was, the guy seems to have been a total fish just doing random crap. | ||
