To all the pros out there.....

Suppose you play 20-40 holdem at a B&M, and have a certain BB/hour you're expecting to make......

Could you expect to make the same amount of money online playing 10-20 solely due to twice as many hands per hour that you get online. I would expect this to correlate pretty easily.

Furthermore how does the 50% decrease in rake effect your earn, Are there things like reading people and just sitting with them that gives you an advantage that you wouldn't get online?

Thanks

There is a tradeoff for online play. First of all, the quality of play online goes up with the limit just as in the B&M, but goes up faster due to readiness of cash. In a B&M you can get some ninny sitting at a 20-40 blasting money away, but that same guy isn't going to dump $10,000 from his credit card online and do the same thing there - or he will, but not as often. Secondly because online games play faster it is worthwhile for real pros to play lower limits online than they woud in a B&M ... they just want to find a game. Then they toughen up that limit so players at that limit trickle down and abuse the players at lower limits. Thus you have downward pressure in the system. Upward pressure in the cardrooms consists of rake concerns and hourly expectation concerns. Since there are more hands dealt per hour and less rake, these upward pressures diminish and as a result you will find an online 10-20 much harder to beat than a live 10-20. Add that to the fact that as a winning player you use more than just betting patters to read your opponents and now you won't be able to do that at all well. My opinion on online play is that it is much better to play 3 tables at a low limit and do a decent job on each than one table on a higher limit. I'd say that I think you can make more money playing 3 5-10 tables than you'll make playing one 10-20 ... I'd even go so far as to say that you'll 'likely' make more money playing three 2-4 tables than one 10-20 because it is hard to find good fish at those limits.
