HELP, i am new at omaha 8/b, but I think i am right... | jumpthru....when playing 8 or better games the lowest hand will always be the lowest "number" counting your 5 cards from highest to lowest ( ace=1) so 8-7-5-3-A is a worse low than 8-7-4-3-2....hope this clears it up for you. GRANT PITTMAN | ||

| Thank you so much for explaining it, I thought it was the lowest card was counted first, so my ace beat his 2... thanks for all your help, nate on 11. | no. the hands are compared from highest to lowest, not the other way around 86543 beats 8732A. often called an 87-low vs. 86-low. similarly, 8654A loses to 86532 | ||

| Jumpthru, Your hand was NOT misread. A simpler way for you to acknowledge the better low hand would be for you to take the *highest* card in your hand and count backwards from the cards on the board: YOU held 8-7-5-3-A Opponent held 8-7-*4*-3-2 You had an 8-7-5-x-x LOW, but your opponent had an 8-7-4 LOW, and 8-7-4 is lower than 8-7-5 (even though you held an Ace to go with it, it doesn't make a difference. You must count your low hand from the *highest* card down to the lowest card. Hope this simplifies things more clearly for you now and BTW........the poker sites never make that kind of mistake! They know exactly where the pot is going at all times when the hand is over. Welcome to Omaha........keep at it and good luck. 4 POKER | ||

| Hey just by reading here in the first place and even posting you're question you are ahead of probably half of the table. Keep asking questions ( though someone else might answer them on Omaha !!! )and dont be afraid to ask anything however trivial it may seem. You have some great players here to learn from and loads of people ( me included ) who pick their brains from time to time ! | Nate, Asking questions (regardless of how silly they may sound to you) is what this forum is about. So please don't think that any question you may have is not worth asking, because it IS. Remember.....the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. I've been playin' Omaha hi-lo for years now and believe me......when I first started to play the game, it wasn't so easy reading the lows and then having to read the board and now the other persons low, blah, blah, etc. etc. It takes time and experience, with maybe a few good pointers to help you out, so I'm glad we were able to help out a bit, and thanks for posting your question.
