what to do ?, jimmyboy, 9. Aug 2003 08:41

Howdy! A little tip if you please. I live near Laughlin NV. And get to play quite often. My question is this the other night I sit down at a 2-5 table and within a few hands I've got killer reads across the board.
I can call out there hands like nothing. But there very loose them thar Californians( ie I grew up there) lots of money to be taken and will play crap, and I know it is, but they just half to see one more card and very often will catch something. So I wait for my blind or killer cards and capitalize on them. And do, but by the end of the night Im sitting on even. What gives.

Yes perhaps , its why I asked. My post may have been a little strong but I was peeved , my calls were on , and so was my read, If your playing and your confident of these but never get dealt a decent start do you wait it out till you do or bluff it when you know there gonna call just to see the next card.

Hey jimmy,

It's great that you were able to read your opponents, but you still want to wait for a good hand in order to get involved....especially in a low limit, loose game with a bunch of players who will take off a card on the flop. Even if you know for sure that they don't hold much, you still have to have a hand yourself in order to continue betting or calling with...and bluffing will very rarely work against a game texture like this so.......have patience when you play because players who play good hands and then chose to play them really well after the flop,(whether it's minimizing on the flops that don't hit you hard enough, or maximizing on your winning hands), will get rewarded in the long run.

Hang in there.

Being a good player is just as much minimizing losses as it is maximizing wins... the other day I was playing in my home game and I was down to $5 from the 40 i cashed in with... then i put it all in to one hand, and worked my way back up to $42 by the end of the night... Sure, I have played w/ the same people and won $100 in one night, and this night I only won $2... but so what?? the cards can't hit you every single night... if the cards were really as bad for you as you are implying... then you did an amazing job by coming out even.

The first thing you may want to do is study up a bit on the language known as English. You used a few of 'them thar' words incorrectly

If you think that you can read everybody at the table cold, then why are you complaining that they are all playing junk? Certainly you'll know when to fold when they hit a miracle hand because you'll have the guy on Q2 and you can fold your QA to a board of Q382-rainbow.

Sounds to me like you're a bit over confident in your estimation of how well you can read people. I think that I'm a very good read myself - I pride myself on it. I consider the human element the best part of my game. But I'll tell you one thing. When I'm sitting with a bunch of fish who play without logic, I don't know what the damn hell they've got 95% of the time.
