Dress code at the table, Mean G, 8. Aug 2003 20:11

I was watching ESPN's coverage of the WSOP and at one point a player, trying to avoid Howard Lederer's penetrating stare, tucked his chin iinside his zipped-up jacket, pulled down the bill of his cap, and basically hid his entire face from view. And I thought, that ain't a bad idea. And then I of course started taking it to ridiculous extremes.

For example, could you sit down at the table wearing a welder's mask? A Jason-style hockey mask? Could you put on a full deep-sea diving outfit, complete with iron helmet with tiny window?

Might Botox become all the rage on the poker circuit, as players have their faces paralyzed through the trendy treatment, giving them that perfectly expressionless (and wrinkle-free) face?

I jest, but when millions of dollars are at stake, people will think up some weird schemes...

I heard about that. I have it on tape and I have not watched it yet. I mean the jason mask would be funny to see but maybe some day it will become a reality. that would be hilarious. Give it a try next time you sit down at your local B&M Mean G. lol

I'd like to know the acual answer to this question, too. I just might wear a surgeon mask and sunglasses + hat.

I know in most parts of America, you cannot wear a mask in public. I don't know if that applies to indoors or what the limits of that law acually are.

Seems like it would be up to the manager of the poker room who would make the decision based on what was best for the room. Meaning if it made the other players uncomfortable..your out of there

Mask laws are only in force in public. Casinos call themselves private clubs to allow them to throw out blackjack card counters. Thus mask laws would not be in effect there.

Casinos won't allow you to cover your face entirely. There was a player at my cardroom who decided, one day, to put his sweater over his head a la Lawrence of Arabia, so that you couldn't see his face at all. Within 5 minutes he was told that he'd have to take it off so that the cameras could see him. Sunglasses and hats are about as far as you can go.

And I love the botox paralysis idea. I might just have to steal that and put it into a novel.

Last Tuesday night, there was an old guy on the $1-$5 stud table wearing a surgical mask!! I wasn't at that table so I would never say anything, but I don't think it was for medical reasons since I saw him smoking a but about 1/2 an hour later in the bar with no mask on.....

If anything, we should all be wearing gloves at the tables. Those chips are dirty.

SARS has freaked out a lot of people, but once he stuck that ciggy in his mouth, he had no fears of anything any worse coming near him.
