Stacking Chips, Robbins, 8. Aug 2003 13:49

I'm getting ready for my first B&M game but had a few other questions pop up...

Let's say I start off betting $3 so I set 3 $1 chips in front of me.
Then, let's say there is a raise and re-raise so when it gets back to me I have to put in $6 more dollars.. Do I stack all on top of the original 3 or make 2 more stacks of 3 each or 1 stack of 6 or does it make absolutely no difference?!

Also, in a $3/$6 structured, are all bets AND raises $3 for the 1st 2 rounds and $6 in the final 2? Or is a 1st round bet $3 and raise $6?

Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking etiquette says to make stacks of the bet size so that it is easy for all of the other players at the table to tell what you are putting in front of you.

Of course lazy dicks like me just fling chips in, but I usually play the 10-20 where it is very easy to tell the difference between 2 chips, 4 chips, and 8 chips. *HOWEVER* if you fling chips in, announce that you are going to raise before you do it. Basically you don't want to slow up the game by confusing anybody.

Most important for a newbie to B&M gmaes. Don't make string bets. That means you can't call and then raise - you have to do it at once. Which means either saying "raise" or putting in enough chips for the raise in one single motion.

Good points stdioh,
At a B&M it is usually not as strict. The one rule that they do really seem to enforce is the string bet. I always say raise before I put the chips in just to cover myself.

Also, don't be afraid of people looking like they will raise. Some players will grab a stack of chips acting like they are going to raise just to see what kind of reaction you give. The other thing I hate is when people bring 6 chips out and leave only three. Just play the game and don't be fooled by this showmanship. Good luck Robbins.
