| Ok guys, I'm sorry I know this is coming up all the time and I feel retarded for asking... but in hopes of becoming a better player could you just go with me here? What are the basic odds that I need to know BEFORE going to the table?? Please put it in an easy to read format: i.e. 1)Odds of hitting trips w/ a pp on the flop - 4:1? turn - 5-1?? 2) odds of hitting 5 card to flush after the flop-?? you get what im saying... please help... I'm asking cuz I just read some interesting posts that said you shouldn't do the math at the table, but know it before you even show up. | ||

| Hi EzCheese The odds of hitting a set on the flop with a poker pair is about 7 1/2-1against. The odds of making a set with one to come on the turn is 45-2......You have seen five cards.....two help you and 45 miss you! The odds of making a fourflush on the flop is about 2-1against........that is not exactly right, but is close enough and the easiest close number to compute for poker problems! Roy Cooke on 7. | Thank you Roy.... I can understand that with one card to come, you just take the # of cards that help you over the # left to get your odds... it's after the flop I'm worried about... so when I go to a game, if the flop four-flushes me to the nuts... I have a 4:1 chance of hitting by the river right? | ||

I have a 4:1 chance of hitting by the river right? not quite.... here you are talking about the odds of hitting an out on the turn or the river or possibly both. so, its easier to figure out the odds of missing completely and taking the converse of it: odds of *not* hitting the flush = (38/47) * (37/46) = .65 or 65% so the chances of hitting it by the river are 35% or slightly better than 2:1 | ||
