| From a 7-card stud game. Bringin is a loose bettor/caller. Upcards are 3c Qd Ac Qs Js 7c 2c I have (3d 6d) Ad. Ac and I both call the bringin. Bringin catches 2s; Ac catches 8s; I catch Qc. Bringin raises. He could have anything, i think it's worth one call (although A QQ and 1 diamond gone, fold?). Ac folds. Next we have: (3d 6d)Ad Qc Kd ( X X)2c 2s 4c He checks, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have trips. I have a strong board and a live 4 flush. I bet he calls. Next we get: (3d 6d)Ad Qc Kd 3h ( X X)2c 2s 4c 9s. I'm 90% sure if I bet at this point he'll call. Given i have maybe 16 outs, do I carry on the semi bluff or do I check it? | ||

| I would tend to bet out in this situation, here are my reasons why 1. Your board indicates alot of strenght, he may acutally fold. (For a complete bluff to be profitable here, he would have to fold more than 20% of the time.) 2. If you get called on 6th, you are much more likely to get called on 7th if you hit the flush and bet/raise, gaining an extra bet. 3. He is likely to just check 7th unless he really improves. So if he then bets 7th, you can fold any pair. Also, if you make a pair and he checks, you probably won't have to pay to show it down. So against one opponent who only has a pair of 2s, i would definately keep betting aggressively. mark | ||

| Allyc I think its clear by this players actions on 5th street that he doesnt have three deuces. A good question to ask yourself is "would this player check 2 pair to me on 5th street even if it was 4s and 2s?" I think this is a poor play on 5th street for your opponent to check if he does have some 2 pair combination but u need to be somewhat sure he doesnt have 2 pair when considering whether or not to bet 6th street. True u have lots of outs to his hand if he does have 2 pair but u are an underdog to win goin to the river in this situation. He will not fold 2 pair on the river so a bet by you on the river is just foolish if u dont help. That being said, I would bet 6th street with the chance of improving my hand PLUS the very real possibility that u are winning with a pair of 3s at this point. By the way.....your call on 4th street is terrible. You would be better off raising but much better still would be to fold!!! You missed your diamond on 4th and caught the deadest card in the deck plus there is a dead 3 and dead ace. Good hand for discussion. GRANT PITTMAN | ||

| Yes, reading over the hand history later, i realised how bad that 4th street call was. A combination of frustration (long run of unplayable hands), and I hate to admit, not reading the board properly (missed one of the queens). | ||

| You know what they say about long runs of unplayable hands ... they are often longer than you thought they were at the time. | ||

| Quite possibly. I often jump on the .25-.50 game when I'm playing a tourney and an omaha table. I find that if I keep myself busy I don't drift off ... though if I make bad plays at the stud table it is either because I'm doing something clever and advanced, or because I'm not paying much attention. The only thing I have going for me there is my win record, but it is hard to be a loser at that game because *DAMN* ... very rarely I'll jump in the $1-$2 game there, but there isn't much point as they players are at least half competent and if I'm playing stud I like to be in it with knownothings. What is your name on UB? | ||

| I tend to base these things strictly on my opponents. If I'm playing at a table with the unfoldable then I'll never do it and if I'm playing at a table with giant boulders I'll always do it. In this case, not knowing anything about your opponents, it looks like a good idea simply because of the strength of your board. | ||
