| After spending some time playing online, I have started thinking of venturing out into the "real world" and try a live game. Not having any experience of Poker in this kind of setting, could somebody recommend a good place to go for Low-Limit HE in SoCal (specially for a rookie)? What kind of games are they spreading? Any good tournaments going on? I'm in Orange County. Thanks, -Magnus | ||

| There is a great live game at Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno. They spread 2-4 up to 15-30 and all the games are filled with fish. It might be too swingy for someone just starting out, but as a solid player thepotential to make a TON of money is really high there. | ||

| Oceans 11 Casino in Oceanside, CA is a nice card room. It's probably less than an hour drive from OC, right off of I-5 in North San Deigo County. They have excellent food for free if you play for at least 3 hours, and it's extrememly cheap even if you don't want to wait. (Usually $2 for a very good sandwich, or $3 or $4 for dinners). They spread a $1-$2 hold'em game almost every night, and numerous $3-$6, $4-$8, and higher games. They also spread stud hi/lo and omaha hi/lo. This weekend they're having a "Dog Days of Summer" with a $140 + $20 Omaha 8 tournament on Saturday and a $160 +$20 limit holdem tournament on Sunday. Normally they have a $20 limit holdem (with rebuys and 1 add-on) tournament every saturday. | ||

| Oceanside Hey I didn't know they had a cardroom! I guess I still have a lot to learn. That is only 35 miles from me (Southern Orange County), have to give that a try. How are the games down there? I guess fairly loose (as I have heard all California games are :-). And what is the caliber of the players? I don't think I will run into Men the Master or any of his "posse" in the LL games but being the first time out I would prefer a less shark infested table.... -Magnus | ||

| The competition there is pretty typical for California. The $1-$2, $3-$6, and $4-$8 tables are usually pretty loose, sometimes aggressive. A good tight/aggressive game will win more often than not at those limits without having to do anything fancy. I haven't played at the higher limit tables. Their website is www.oceans11.com if you want to check it out. It's a pretty bland website, but it will have most of the important information. I would definately suggest trying it out, it's one of my favorite card rooms. | ||

| Magnus, The closest Casino to you is "Hawaiian Gardens". It is right off the 605 Freeway @ Carson. (You can follow the signs from the 605 or look them up on the Internet) They have $1-$2, $2-$4, $3-$6 and up. They also have Jackpots on all of the low limit games. You won't have to worry about any ringers at that level. They have lot's of tables, so if you don't like the table you are at, you can easily ask for a table change. Expect to have 4 to 7 players on every flop at anything under $6-$12. Good Luck. BTW ... If you are interested in one-on-one lessons with a pro, let me know. The pro I am writing of manages the props there. He has a very low rate, of which, you will easily make back on your winning's. Scrubbie "I'd rather be Rich, then Stupid" | ||
