| I've seen some people Ante in a Texas Hold-Em game. Seeing as the blinds cover that, why would someone have to ante? Is there ever an ante AND blinds required? Thanks. | ||

| Not in a normal game, maybe they were confused. A lot of people ante in home games either because they like the format or don't know any better. | If you are playing dealers choice and holdem isn't a regular game than an ante is more fair. | ||

| In tournament hold'em blinds are often added in the latter rounds. Basically they are there to increase the action at the tables by making it worth stealing, restealing, etc. They are provided for in the Tex's TEARS system. I've never seen antes in a cash game of hold'em though. | ||

| In tournaments, in later rounds, you do tend to ante (depending on the structure) in hold'em. Otherwise not. | ||

| Usually, in tournament play, an ante is added to the blinds during late rounds, and is usually fairly small (if the blinds are T2000/T4000, the ante may be T200). The whole idea is to keep the action up and make sure that all players have at least some interest in the pot. -Moz "Yeah, I've made up your mind." | ||

| Also, in the later rounds of some tournaments (at Foxwoods at least) there is an ante and blinds required. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this but if I had to guess I'd say it creates more action and/or speeds the end of the tournament up. | ||

| In a Home Game that's Dealer's Choice where all the other games are ante based, I doubt you'd have much luck convincing them to let you deal Holdem based on the normal Blind structure. Antes in Holdem could work siimilar to 5 card Draw I suppose. jmo | ||
