With the info available in the lobby how do you pick the best game?
I have been looking for high flop percentages/big pots in the lobby but a lot of those games it seems like you end up getting out drawn a lot becouse five people go to the river with nothing and one of them gets thier card at the river. Thanks for the help

Don,

Those games may be the most frustrating, but in general they are the most profitable if played properly.

Generally I look for pot size. It does depend on the game though. In stud I'll want a large average pot...same in omaha. In hold'em, I'll want both a large average pot *and* a high flop percentage. I don't want a small flop percentage and large average pot or it means tight agressive sharkies. But the best way is to look at the players and say, "I know that guy and that guy and they're both big fish" and then follow them around.

Ditto in the player recognition, my most profitable sites are the ones where I have scouted out so many players. One little note like he called a raise with J4o and I know he's no good. Note taking is critical for being eventually able to spot out great games.

Games with a lot of people seeing the pot and large pots overall will definately tend to have more bad beats than an average table. These tables generally have people playing very loose, and several people going to the river every hand. So there are a lot more opportunities for people to get that miracle river card.

These games can be very profitable over the long term, but they can also give you some big swings short term if you're playing good, tight aggressive poker.

Generally you can keep playing good poker and wait for your luck to turn around, or maybe look for a little tighter game. You can find tighter games that are still profitable, but you need to make sure it's a fairly passive table. The last thing you want to do is sit at a table with very many tight, aggressive players.

A few ways:

Online Stats: flop % to me is more effective indicator than pot size. Pot size may mean a bunch of fish limping preflop with any suited, but it could also mean tough players raising aggressively, too.

Fish List: Keep track of the losers and get in their games. This list will be everchanging as fish never last very long.

Waiting List: A very effective way to tell a game is good is how many people are waiting in line to get in. If one game has 15 people waiting and there's open seats at other tables at the same limit, you know the sharks are circling the waters. Of course, by the time you get in, the game could have completely changed.

Hi Don

Often I find the best games online NOT to be the ones with the biggest pots.....The best earn in poker is where you get the highest hourly sum of the combination of volume bet and expectation on those bets. Often that is not in a game in which there is a lot of raising...

In games with a lot of raising many hands that would be profitably playable in a passive game become unprofitable in an aggressive game. I look for games with passive players that play their hands poorly.....Player that do not protect their hands and let you win a pot due to that fact have made a grievous mathematical expectation error.

Keep notes on players you want to play with....Learn a site, get to know the players, pay attention and watch a game prior to playing......
