Been playing 2/4 hold'em on PartyPoker. I play according to the books (Lou Krieger, Hold'em Excellence) and several others. I read my opponents carefully. Can't seem to win. It is seldom you get playable hands. Especially with the seldom flops you see are not always favorable and the favorable ones get beat by maniacs. Low-limit online play seems different than real table play. (alot different) What to do? I don't want to change my play and hope that continuing my strategy my day will come. Any opinions on online low-limit strategies? And any additional comments to those who read the book by Lou? Thanks

If you have only been playing for a short period of time (2 weeks) this is very common. Also with Krieger's style you play alot of hands resulting in big swings. With all the suck-out artists at Party that turns into huge swings. Wait it out, stay patient and eventually the chips will come to you. If this continues on for even longer, maybe a re-read of the book or even a second book would be good. Also if the big swings are causing you stress, play tighter resulting in smaller wins but also smaller losses, book a couple of winners, then loosen up when you have confidence.

I haven't read Lou's book, so I'm not sure what type of game it's geared towards. I know that a lot of good holdem books have strategy optimized towards winning at higher limit games. If you have really played long enough and believe that the strategy you are using is yielding negative results, you might want to try reading a book specifically about Low Limit Hold'em (you really can't read too many poker books!). One excellent book is Lee Jones's Low Limit Holdem book.

You will generally get beat on the river more at Low Limit Hold'em, but those same people who occasionally beat you at the river are going to be the ones who pay you off the majority of the times when you do get a good hand.

Lou Krieger advocates playing a LOT of hands. I find Lee Jones' requirements much better. My suggestion would be to read Jones and tighten up on Krieger's set of hands. I don't care if I'm on the puck or not, T-8o is not a hand I want to see a flop with.
