| I have been recently delving more into chess and was wondering if anyone could recommend a solid strategy book for a beginning to intermediate player. Let's just say I am hooked on the game now and it is a cheaper distraction than my other past time. Thanks in advance! Steve | ||

| My favourite is 'Logical Chess: Move by Move' by Irving Chernev. It has 33 grand master games; every single move is analysed in plain english with the strategic ideas behind the move explained. Also worth reading is 'Winning Chess' , Fred Reinfeld. This is a book on tactical themes such as pins, forks, etc. The examples are all taken from grand master games. It's a sort of quiz book, with a 'what is the winning move?' theme. Both books are by Faber and Faber. | ||

| If you have yet to do any book work at all, I'd highly recommend the first four books of the "Play Winning Chess" series by Yasser Seirawan. By far the easiest to understand and work with for those who are not already playing some tournaments. -Chip | ||

| This is a little off the subject but still relevant. If you are looking for a good chess engine to download Go to http://www.playwitharena.com/ it is free and it has 5 different engines. | ||

| I agree with chessclub.com But out of about 50 books, Jeremy Silman's "Reassess your chess" is by far the best book I've ever read. | ||
