Paradise tourneys: $10 or $20, flintsword, 6. Aug 2003 07:57

I was recently wondering if there is a real skill difference between the players that play the $20 tournament tables at Paradise and the ones that play the $10 tables. Just back from vacation I have had poor (read stupid) results on the $10 tables, and I accidentally logged into a $20 table, found the playing level identical, and went on to do well.

Any other players that play Paradise tournaments regularly find that there is no skill difference between the $10 tables and the $20 tables?

Note: Anyone playing me this week and next week is in for a shock, as I am playing like a Halibut, but shaking out the bugs after my vacation.

There's not a great deal of skill difference between 10 and 20 in my experience. Same goes for 30. As the level goes up, you'll get fewer of the morons going all-in to win $15 in blinds or making $20 bets at $500 pots, but overall if you can win at 10, you should do ok at 20 and 30. This applies to Party tourneys also.

Most of the time you can literally post and fold the first three rounds of a NLHE tourney and not play a hand until the 50/100 level. By this time there's usually only 5-6 left as idiots who way overplay their hands will have busted out and you're just a couple more left until the money.

Thanks SmellsLikeVictory,
In fact I am going to put your "fold the first three hands" to the test, subject to any AA, AK, or KK type hands that come up ... hehehe, I am weak that way. Thanks for the opinion!

hey fw,

I haven't played at Paradise, but I know that at PP and UB there is no discernible difference. This also applies to the sit-n-go's. In fact, I played one $100 sit-n-go where 3 players were booted within 5 minutes. I came in second without a pocket pair higher than 7... really nothing good. The play was terrible.

You are plenty good enough to play in the $10, $20 or $30 level.

Thanks Big_Slick, Your opinion is appreciated. I am trying to understand the differences in play between these levels ($10 tourneys and $20 tourneys), in essense to decide if I should be wasting my time in the lower limit $10 tournaments. So far my results have not changed in the least, but the amount won is bigger.
