How much to take to a NL Ring game?, Dr_Monkey, 6. Aug 2003 05:10

I have been playing some NL ring games at UB. The blinds are 0.25/0.50 with a minimum buy in of $10 and a max of $25.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to buying in for the minimum?

I have had success and failure at both buying in at the min and max. Trying to find a good balance.

The max buy in makes an all in move more powerful. But you are risking more. But a $7-$10 all in move can still be scary to others.

Generally, if I'm playing in a NL or PL game on UB which is fishy as hell (and if it isn't I don't play in it) I want to buy in for the maximum. Simply put, if I go all in with a great hand against a fish going all in with a less great hand, I want to make as much off of it as possible. Just make sure you have an adequate bankroll and if you don't then showing up at the table with less is perfectly ok.

Any NL game, ring or tourney, you want to be the biggest, deepest stack. It's a huge advantage as smaller stacks are alway in fear of being put all-in by you. Always buy-in for the max. Always. I generally will reload to the max whenever I dip 25% below it. You don't want to get AA in a $100 max game when you only have $25 and could have reloaded. That's a disaster. When you get that huge hand you want to take maximum advantage of it and you need as many chips in front of you as possible.
