Are you on the cruise, or in the next set of semi-finals?

I am on the cruise having won 2 semi-finals...am basically asking that assuming (of which I know)..that I am not a total moron....what my chances are of winning against top level tourney players?...if 300 are in tourney...1 in 300...400?...How much of an edge does a TJ have?

Congrats on qualifying in 2 semis!!!! Against a field of 1,000 players I think that is rather impressive to not only qualify once but twice.

It sounds to me that have better than a fair chance to do well at the tourney.

By the way, what happens to the second spot you won? Did you get cash in lieu of the seat or do you sell the seat at the tourney?

Will definately sell it at some point...should do ok as the tourney will be limited to the # of cabins reserved.....winning 2 was very tough and seemed like a once in a lifetime event for me...I was sobered by the point made of top tourney players having such a huge edge

Well, I would put it this way. You're going to be in a tourney with name players and with total losers, so your chances of making the money are only going to be a little less than the name players, assuming that you really are a good amateur. Get more than your fair share of luck and you could definitley move up the standings and get to the money.

However, at the end of the tourney when it is just you, a few lucky good amateurs like you, and the name players, I suspect that they will eat you for lunch (as I suspect they would eat me for lunch were I in your shoes) ... I would say that your chances of getting from an average chipstack in the money to winning the damn hell thing are slim, but not impossible.

Lets say that there are 400 players and your chance of making top 40 is 1/10. I'd guess that if you make top 40 your chance of winning would be more like 1/200. So I'd say that your chance of winning the thing is 1/2000. Of course I'm just picking numbers out of the air so I really don't know. But I do know that when you play with the seasoned pros it's a whole new game.

Thank You...and I expect it to be tough from 1st hand until...the I shoulda's coulda's...I believe but am not too sure of 1 thing...that regardless of who you are you must have hands hold up and deliver bad beats to succeed in a tourney and that top pros need less of these 2..then good amateurs...I only raised this point after hearing of a situation..where a top pro was asked to play a net tourney for someone and he said...."oh no what if they find out?"...obvious implication of impending succeess..just wondered how high an edge!!

Just remember, once you're in you do have a chance to win. Play your best and enjoy the experience. The cruise and the tournament should be a blast.

Don't forget too that the big pros lose a lot but win only a little. There are so many ways to lose when you have a big edge and take it up against a wall a few times. For example I got all in at a tourney last night with AJ on an A high board against a giant maniac who had a huge chipstack and held 55. He backdoored a wheel and I was out early. Had I doubled through my decent stack I would have been in a decent position to take a shot at the $1600 first place prize, but as it went I got a nice warm cup of jack squat. Put me in that position again next time and the time after that and the time after that and eventually I'll win one. As long as you're a good player against bad opponents the good times will more than make up for the bad times.

I dont know the payout structure but i would suggest that you stand as good a chance as any of reaching the money, to qualify from about 800 people twice means you obviously have some skills about you - think Moneymaker and good luck !
