ESPN has really put some lipstick on the pig.

They make poker look incredibly glamorous versus the grind. Very high production qualities.

My concern is that by showing the highlights.....they water down the process and make it look very easy....when we all know it's not.

For winning poker players, wouldn't we want that? I want people to think the game should be easy and decide to put a little of their money in play.

If all this glamour inspires 100 new players a week... I'm thinking only 1 of those players will become an excellent player... those 99 players are just contributing money to winning players.

this brings up a question: what is it that separates the top players from one another (if anything)? are the same players always in the money at big events because they are better than other pros....or because they are the same people who enter all of the big events and just have more chances at making the money?

clearly luck plays a role in tournament poker....but if all of the top players were involved does it just degenerate into a coin-flipping contest?

The pig needs lots of lipstick and some mascara too. Poker in the modern era should be thought of as glamorous. Sex sells and the next big step is corporate sponsorship. Where is poker's Anna Kournikova? Is it you e-babes? or PBG or Wren? I know you're out there somewhere.

I agree, sex sells.... There WILL be an Anna K of poker before long. Shilling this and that with copious cleavage showing.....

The trick is finding her, backing her, and being her manager at a 20% rate :-D

THEN I wouldn't have to put up with bankroll swings, frozen waves of cards, and surly SOBs at the table.....

I'll do it for 10%--- Actually this should be a project for the WPT. Ratings = $$$. Find her, teach her, back her in small tournments, when she's ready --. launch her in the big time--jut like Hollywood does with actresses

Hi. May I mention Jill Ann Spaulding. She s a poker player, mostly from Arizona, and a Playboy model (she did a nude layout in conjunction with Playboy's basic poker lessons). She did a guest appearance at BARGE, where she signed photos and posed for snapshots. Very nice lady. She typically plays with a poodle on her lap - dog's name is "Hold'em".

Sounds perfect---does Lyle Berman know? but no poodle except in print spreads. This is serious not a joke.

Not a bad idea, but its already been done. Chris Moneymaker in WSOP---The overall idea is to attract corporate sponsorship and TV rights money. Other wise
we end up trading dollars among ourselves See Barry T. and Roy Cooke's comments about tournament earnings vs expenses. It's all about the money, baby

She has a nice rack. And her butt doesn't look like it's been glued to a chair for 10 hours on end while she eats high fat, high sodium goodies.

WOW!

I've never seen THAT at CAZ. I'm glad too, I wouldn't be able to focus on the game if she was in the room... ;)

The only thing I dislike about the WSOP coverage is that you see a minimal number of hands. There are more commercials than hands show.

As an aside. . .I saw the WPT for the first time at a friend's house this weekend (I don't have the Travel Channel). The coverage is better than ESPN from a "hands seen" perspective, but I think the WPT is probably the worst thing for a beginner to watch. I was with a friend who is a beginner who watches the WPT religiously and we played 5-10 at Binion's. . .his play was all over the map. Until I saw the WPT, I could not fathom what his play was based on. Now that I've seen it, I realize he was trying to apply no-limit, shorthanded play to a low limit ring game. Bad idea.

That is a good thing. It'll bring new players into the poker economy with wallets wide open and dollar signs in their eyes. Then we take half their money, kick them in the raisinbag and ask them to come back tomorrow. Repeat ad eminem.
