Tournament Hand Question, Guru, 4. Aug 2003 06:35 | ||

| Okay, so I write a post whining about how badly I'm doing in tournaments now and then turn around and make another final table. In the end, I think my expectations were way too high, because I'd say I've made the final table in almost half of the tourneys I've played in the last couple of months which is pretty phenomenal and completely unsustainable in the long run. I'm playing well, I should quit whining. I still am finding, however, that I'm having trouble finishing. I'll make a final table, then almost always finish 7-10th. In a similar vein, I'm still having trouble moneying in sit and go's, which is a very similar environment. Any thoughts? I also wonder how others are think about this hand I got bounced on. So, I make the final table, but am pretty short stacked at this point, having had a couple hands cracked for big losses. The blinds are now 300-600 and I have just over T2,000 (What does that T really stand for?) in front of me, so the blinds are becoming an issue quickly. I feel like I need to make a move to double up through someone so that I have enough chips to start building up. I choose to let A2o and A3s go by because I don't want to risk my whole stack on an Ace w/weak kicker. I'm two right of the button and get a pair of 8's in the hole. A really big stack with T19,000+ raises from middle position to make it 1200 to go. I had played with him through a lot of the tourney and knew him to be a solid player, but he had also been using his big stack to bully some people effectively, so I wasn't sure if the raise was due to a great hand or trying to bully a little. I decided to hope he had a strong drawing hand and went all-in. Everyone else folded, making it heads up. He flipped a pair of jacks and, alas, no third 8 came to my rescue. Would you have made the same decision? | ||

| Should we call that hand a "Moneymaker" from now on? Isn't that the exact hand Moneymaker had and was up against when he pulled his 2 outer? If Chris didn't Turn a miracle 8, I would never be writing this post. As far as the hand, novice says that you are a slight favorite againt a drawing hand. Unfortunately, he wasn't drawing. I think you made a good decision considering what you were up against. | ||

| Moneymaker's Pocket EIGHTS, with the 8 on the turn, were nothing less than a miracle. He was up against a well-known player and Pocket Aces. All in all, he probably made a crappy call and it changed his life. Did he not know the Big Guy had a big hand? Only two-cards in the deck could save him, and it has changed his life for ever. I think the "Set" in Poker is one of the truly great aspects of the game. A set always has the potential to be in play. A set has these amazing mystical qualities. It can take you from last to first with just one card. I love flopping a set !!!! And it hurts so bad, when the set goes down for the loss. e-babes. | ||

| I moneymaker'd someone in a SnG yesterday. 8's vs Q's. The whole table was on tilt about me till I closed in second place. I was quite amused by the comments in the chat window. I didnt chat until the headups play, a lot of them were reaching on trying to get me knocked out. | ||

| It was after the flop there was a K on board, not sure about the other 2. But moneymaker asked how much humberto had left and raised him to force him all in. Humberto called and the turn came 8. Also I had this same hand I was shortstacked had 8's, went all in, the chip leader had ace ace lol. And an 8 came on the river not the turn... lol | ||
