I am scheduling a bachlor party for about 7 - 10 guys. Greektown is the closest casino to us with a poker room. We are from Akron Ohio. I was looking for everyone's opinion of the place including any deals you may know of and the best/cheapest hotel within walking distance. Thanks for any of your ideas.

Hi,

Since it is a bachelor party, I'm assuming your going on a Friday or Saturday night??

Greektown is a nice Casino, and it's poker room is somewhat small, with roughly 10-12 tables. Plan on waiting anywhere from 3+ hours minumum to be seated.

Last time I was there, was on a Sunday afternoon, and it took 2 1/2 hours to get on a 5-10 table.

Good Luck.....

I hate Greektown Casino. I played there a few times and would never go back.

The Poker room is not run by professionals and I've had a few bad experiences there (aside from the incredibly long wait times even when tables are free)

If you are going to play there, protect your hands at ALL times AND protect your stack.

I've seen dealers muck live hands and make horrible judgement calls (when they're not supposed to), various conflicts escalate to physical confrontations, had my name erased off the list, etc, etc, etc, when i played there.

Mark

Greektown was the worst card room I've ever played in. Extremely poor customer service, cramped, and very long waits for open seats.

You might want to think about crossing the border and having your party in Canada. Niagara falls has some extremely decent "live" entertainment and we are much more liberal up here when it comes to what is allowed to go on in those sort of places. The Sundowner is an excellent establishment on Lundy's Lane.

As for poker, Brantford has a great cardroom and is about 1.5 hours drive from Niagara Falls.

I didn't know of any card rooms in Canada. Are there any others?

Yep. The best one, from what I understand is my home cardroom at the Brantford Charity Casino. They have 9 tables and play 5-10 up to 50-100 (though rarely there is anything higher than 30-60 being played). There is a cardroom at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario and there is another at Great Blue Herron Casino in Port Perry. I believe that there is also a room in Sarnia.

And then of course there are underground clubs all over Toronto, Missassauga, Kitchener, Hamilton, etc.

And if you're looking outside of Ontario there are great cardrooms in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Hallifax.

Hey stdioh what is the name of the casino in Sarnia? I have been looking for a poker room since this past February when they closed the room at the Soaring Eagle in Mt.Pleasant and all of the Greektown horror stories have kept me away from there.I live near Saginaw,Michigan so Sarnia would be a realistic drive for me. Thanks for your input

It is called the Point Edward Charity Casino (point edward is a small town just next to Sarnia). I've never been there, so I can't tell you what the cardroom is like.
