So you're on UB watching the SnG list, waiting for the right new table to refresh. By the time you connect there's already several players seated. Assuming you don't know these players, is there a strategical preference to not selecting the seat closest to the button? Consider the average number of early bust outs, and that you may get about 8 to 12 hands per early level. At some point in the first four or five levels you will be posting both your blinds twice at that level. Are certain seats with respect to the initial button better than others by trying to anticipate not having to post as much. Perhaps taking the initial small blind seat is better than taking some other seat closer to the button? Label the seats clockwise from the initial small blind seat (1) through the initial button (10), and make a case for not always grabing the higest numbered seat. My feeling is seat preference might be optimal as 10 9 8 1 7 2 6 3 5 4. Comments?

In the early rounds, when you pay your blind is pretty much irrelevant. I barely take into account where I am in terms of the button, but I like to start as far away as possible because I get to have better position in the hands where idiots are fishing around. It only starts to be a real concern when the BB increase lands on you when blinds get over 50-100 and by then it should be sufficiently randomized.
