| In checking out some small casinos I have found the rake to be as high as 10 %. Since the pot also includes some of the money of the winning player, this could work out to be as much as a 15 % commission on the amount won. First, any comments on this analysis. Secondly, at what level of house rake does it become probable that everyone loses over the long term? | ||

| Hey Tim, I'm not sure if this helps, but at my B&M the house rakes $3 on every pot. It only rakes $3 even if the pot is $300. Of course the house rakes $3 on a $10 pot too. Therefore, pot odds is a major concern. | ||

| here in Europe, if a casino would charge only 5 or 10 dollars per hand, i'd play poker for a living. Unfortunately the situation is different and they rake much more than that. Converted in U.S. money, up to 25-30 usd per hand, plus the casino expects a high tip which is not for the dealer himself but will be pooled. The house pays the wages from those tips. I think that after the online poker revolution, low limit players should play online and if you like live action poker, a limit not lower than 8/16 or 10/20 is recommended to justify a 3-4 dollar rake. Low limit games with additional jackpot drops plus dealer tip cut are unplayable unless for pure relaxation. That's my opinion. | ||

| Depends on the game. The 5-10 at Brantford rakes 10% up to $5 out of each pot that sees a flop. This would be unproffitable if it were played by real poker players, but because it is the 5-10 and you tend to get 7 players seeing each flop, the pots average much larger than $50 so it becomes acceptable. Still, I prefer to play a game with a timecharge. The 10-20 there takes $5 every half hour from each player. This way you can factor it in as part of your hourly rate and deal with it that way. | ||
