Unusual tournament hand, Schuster, 1. Aug 2003 11:25

It's the second level, blinds are 15/30. I've lost some chips early and I'm at 385 after I call the blind. I get Ah Js in the small blind. 2 limpers early and I limp, the big blind checks the option. The flop is Q Q J. I check and it's checked all around. The turn is another jack. I check and it's checked around again. The river is the case jack, making my quads. Hey, I hope someone was slowplaying a queen! With 120 in the pot, and 4 people around, I push them all in, hoping to get called by someone hoping to split (hey, it's party poker) or someone with a queen. One person calls with pocket 8's (yep, party poker) and I'm back up on chips. Was my river play bad or worth a shot?

I think you played th river perfectly. Anyone with a Queen almost has to call and by pushing all-in it looks like you are trying to steal with a pair lower than Queens. I acutally might have bet the turn, but that notwithstanding, I think the river play was perfect.

Seems good to me since there was only one hand that could beat you and the odds were against anyone having it, especially since no on bet it. Probably the guy with 8's though he was giong to push...or was just dumb.

I think your river bet was a good bet. With the board reading QQJJJ, the only hands that could beat that board is a Q, 2Q's, the case J, *AA*, and or *KK*, but the *last two holdings* would've probably been raised pre-flop anyway, so it may take some fear out of a player in thinking that you have a better hand then the board, and (all other pocket pairs would be nulll and voided here as well)........So by you betting it there you may also get a call from anyone holding just Ace high in thinking that they will just play the board with you for Jacks full of Queens, and you'd definitely get paid off by anyone holding a Q as well, although it would be unlikely that they wouldn't have bet it sooner. The player with the 88 either made a mistake in thinking that he was playing Omaha perhaps (where you must use 2 cards from your hand, LOL), or didn't realize that he actually only held 8 high OR, he could've very well thought that you were just betting and were intending to just play the board.
