| I managed to get 5th place last night, out of 123 players by using Phils top ten. I lost a huge pot with AA but avoided going on tilt, sucked it up and played solid poker. The hand went like this BL 300 600 ep raise to 1200 I raise to 1800 with AA Player on my left hesitates a long time and cold calls 2 raises. BB hesitaes long time and mucks QQ. Origanal raiser raises to 2400 I raise enough to get both players all in. Hands ,player 1 KK me AA reluctant caller AKo. Gee I wonder who wins flop comes rag rag Q turn 10 and river of course a J. 5th paid 840.00.Not bragging or whining just talking poker. Any one else trying Phils top ten in tournaments? I am going to try his Top 15 on Sun in a NL To at Canterbury. I added a few hands to the top ten when going for a steal, Stole 2 pots with AJo tried to stael with 22 but got called AA on flop, I bet out but got called, had to muck. One unlucky player , with 14 of us left had KK back to back and lost both times, brutal. Any pros see any downside for Phils strategy? Poker Rules | ||

| I'd also like to hear a comment on these. My biggest problem is the obvious which is.. those hands don't come often enough. I was just in a tournament without a single pair or 2 paint cards the entire time. I only saw the flop on a few suited connectors, but no luck. My point being, should you really pass up some of the marginal others? Does the success of waiting for such hands justify it? | ||

Patience, young man, patience. NEVER play garbage and watch out for suited connectors they are overrated. Let the others make the mistakes Gary | ||

| I was actually proud of myself for basically blinding out. It showed I could have the patience to wait for the right hands, which often can be a leak of mine. However I've had less success lately and wondered if I was being too tight. | ||

| Jagged I have tried playing several strategies from loose to tight, I like what Phil says, he lets the cards decide how long he is in the tournament. The top ten is stress free poker. I did play other hands when I thought the odds were there. Stealing with AJo and calling with Q10o in the small blind with 5 limpers. Overall I think it is better to wait for a good hand and jam it all the way. A lot of players will call you on the flop and will fold for the big turn bet. Plan on using it in a 3-6 game at a BnM Sat. tried it for a short time Fri. and made 63.00 while waiting for the Tournament to start. Good luck | ||

| You still have to take advantage of semi-steal situations, especially when you have a large stack and the blinds do not. You will have to deviate from any top 15 list when you are at the final table and it gets shorthanded, otherwise you are a favorite to get blinded out. You will have to be able to identify those situations where you must not get involved with some of these premium hands. This can be due to stack pressure, a reraise ahead of you, or decisions when near the bubble. You also have to play well after the flop those times when you aren't already all-in. Treat the top hands as a guide, but be prepared to have to make quality decisions since the hands don't play themselves. | ||

| I've incorporated alot of Phil's stradegy into my ring games and have been having success. I know alot of players here don't like his play, but i don't see anything wrong with it. I think that if a player has good hand reading ability and doesn't get tied to hands, that Phil's Stradegies are great. One thing he doesn't stress enough in his book is that the cards are not the most important thing, HAND READING and OPPONENTS PLAY are most important. Then comes the cards. I think that many of the players who use his stradegy and fail must not be able to fold when it should be obvious they're beaten. just my 2 cents Mark | ||
