I have always played A xx suited to the flop expect on a reraise because obviously if you hit the flush you can win a monster pot. What are your thoughts about Kxx suited using the same strategy.

What do you mean by AXX and KXX - are you talking about stud?

If you are playing AXX suited in stud and both of your ace and your X's are completely live, *AND* your suit is completely live, then I can see playing it, but even then I would want X to be at least 9. Really 2 suited cards mean very little in stud as you need to double back door a flush ... if you have something marginally playable and you also have a double backdoor flush draw, seeing another card might be ok, but generally only if you're at a passive table that will often give you a free 5th street.

Oh, that one is easy to answer. Play KX suited on the puck or small blind when there have been 5 limpers. Throw that trash away to any raise unless the blinds raise after you limp on the puck or SB.

Kxs is significantly weaker than Axs.......About 6% of the time someone will have Ax of the same suit and having an ace in your hand is a lot stronger than having a King

In a full 10 player game Ax or Kx is a only mildly strong. In short hand play (less than 5 players) they are both strong hands. In NL SNGs I see way too many people raising, calling and even going all in with Ax. Even after a junk flop with the blinds betting their asses off.

That type of play might win you a few pots but it will get you in the end. If the cards on the board don't help you they are hurting you. If the cards in your hand can't beat the junk on the board then you are usually screwed unless you can pull off a bluff or get a really cheap ride to the river and make your draw hand.

I would say 90% of the time an A or K is junk until it hits something on the board. Ax or Kx is a draw hand and should be treated as such.

Axs is not an automatic play for me unless I'm unless the conditions are right to play for a flush draw and I'm in LP (sometimes MP if the table conditions are right). I pretty much do the same thing with Kxs. But unless a monster flop hits (ie hitting a set with the x or a full house) I will almost exclusively play these hands as a flush draw.

If I draw high pair with A or K and nothing else on the flop I pretty much always muck the hand as the x kicker is essentially useless.

Always playing A-x suited hoping to catch the flush will be a loser for you in the long run. An even bigger loser will be K-x suited.

I agree with Big-Slick 100%, I really believe that Kx suited is a loser in the long run. You'll only hit a flush about 3% of the time and even if you pair the K, can you feel good about that with such a low kicker? If the ace comes up, you just about know you're beat and another K in someone else's hand is a real possibilty.

I got burned twice with K high flush. I got taken out in the first hand of a $30 NL SNG because I got suckered into playing it on the river with only 3 suited cards on the board.

The next match I decided to fold after two other players went all in before me with 4 suited on the board. They had junk and a Q. That really pissed me off, lol.

Exactly. In early position you should dump your A7s and below for sure. In late position don't play the small Axs unless there are a lot of limpers.

Its been awhile since i read his book, but doesn't Phil Helmuth advocate coming in with Ax suited for a raise?
