Strange run of cards, magnus, 30. Jul 2003 11:27

First of all I want to thank everybody who emphases the need to play aggressively when you "got the stuff" (and sometimes when you don't). It has made a huge improvement on my game, specially in short handed games.

So, I was playing a SnG at Party yesterday. 3 players left, Me and the guy to my left about joint chip lead (about 3500) with the shortstack at about 1000. Blinds are 200/400. I'm on the button and gets AKs, raises to 800 and SB (other CL) calls, BB folds. Flop brings Kxx, I bet another 800 and SB folds.
Next hand I get 82o in BB, checks and folds after the flop to a bet from second chip leader.
Following hand I get AKo in SB, raises to 800 and everybody folds.
Next hand another AKo!!!! (so in 4 hands I had 3 Big Slick) on the button I bet 800 and everybody folds.

So, I managed to get 2000 chips out of this run of cards which I'm very happy with (specially when I didn't have to risk much). I would say that my opponents was playing too tight at this point ts not get busted out first, but would there be any better way of playing this kind of run of cards?

I think I had a tight image which I used during other hands to steal some blinds, which I probably wouldn't have done without the input I got from here.

BTW. After taking the CL with that run of cards, I had no problem winning the SnG!

That's what it's all about. Last night I was in the top 4 of a $10 SNG and they were all tight solid players. I got a run of good Ax Kx hands and took out all of them in 3 consecutive hands with top pairs and good kickers.

I think that this late in the tourney with the blinds as high as they were, stealing the blinds is huge. AK is strong but I am almost positive that it is a small underdog to any pair. If I have AK or nothing and trying to steal the blinds, I am extremely happy when they fold.

with AK I'd be happy to steal the blinds especially when the blinds are bigger later in the tournament. Though if I had AA I would try and trap them and get more money off of them. Later in the tournament, You have to be aggressive, whether you have AK or 2 7o... Blinds are important... If your playing against tight players you can bet a lot with crap hands and steal the blinds. Then when you get something like AA or KK, Just check, they'll think "he has nothing" he always bets. And they could make a big move....
