| Is it common or even acceptable to announce what your cards are when trying or hoping to have no one call?...A friend of mine was in a tourney where he was short stacked 1 out of the big money.....he had ak...and raised all in in 1st position...2 non blind callers ...1 with q-6....k flopped...but 2 pair on river and a hasty exit for ak....we all said later...you should have announced or shown what you had...would that have been ok?...what if he wasn't short and said...i got AA boys...let me get heads up with the short stacked (all-in) bb! | ||

| I don't think it's ethical to ever reveal your hand, except at showdown or when heads-up and one of you is all-in. House rules may vary, but generally players are disciplined in some way for revealing their hands. It may cost them chip, or in extreme cases I gues some casinos would boot the player. -Moz "I smoke 'cause I'm hoping for an early death, and I need to cling to something." | ||

| It is totally unethical to talk about your cards before it's time to show. Almost any casino will punish you in some way or another by killing your hand or, as moz noted, even booting you from the tourney. You'd have to break the rule several times for them to go that far, but it will cost you money either way. | ||

| Glad you pointed that out before it came up for me...Thanks...brings up a weird situation...on the pp semi-final cruise tourney in which top 25 got a cruise package($9000)...as it wound down it became a battle of who would be blinded out as no short stacks wanted to play....haplessly and foolishly a player who didn't need to gamble..played with kk...against a big stack....well a5...became trip 5's...and the gent cost himself $9000....I guess even 3 aces.or any hand that can be beaten with 2 cards to go...no matter how unlikely..on the flop must be tossed when in that spot | ||

| I never really thought of this either but now that I'm aware of it really pisses me off when other players screw it up. Last night in a tourney a shortstack when all in and the chip leader bluffed me out of the pot. I had A J but was low on chips myself and didn't want to fight with the chip leader when he is betting out of MP. He bluffed me out and the short stack beat him with a pair of 8s. I would have caught my A and J on the 4,5 cards to take him out. I mentioned it to the chip leader and apparently pissed him off. We ended up being the last two and had a long drawn out battle for first. He ended up wining and wouldn't even respong to a 'good game' message. What a baby. | ||

| I think if you are playing heads up, have bet at an opponent, and he is sweating you, you can say what your cards are - because he has no way of knowing if you are being honest. Likewise, I think it's ok at some point to throw out a raise and say, "Watch out - I have aces" because again people have no way of knowing if you are being honest or not. If you pre-arrange something though, that is very much wrong and if you actually show your cards same thing goes. | ||
