| Wondering what the swings should be in a 2/4 low limit game with loose players? I am a tight aggressive player and not winning. Seemingly I always get a bad beat on the river card with a maniac. I don't see many flops and when I do get cards to play on the flop there is usually a maniac that stayed in to beat my hand. I want to think that my play is good but then what is a good hand in this type of game and how not to be beat. Do you slow call all playing hands until you have a nut so that your bad beats are not killing your bankroll? Any suggestions would be helpful! | ||

| In a wildly loose game where none of your hands are holding up, you could expect a downswing of 40 BB's or so. You just have to muddle through and not go on tilt or you will bleed away more money. That is easier said than done. I think you need to keep playing correctly. Don't bluff at all, value bet on the river more than usual (as you will be called) and throw away marginal holdingl like AJ, AT, and KQ in LP when 6 people have limped. This will save you a lot of $$ and aggravation. Keep at it. | ||

| Hi If you lose 200 big bets over the course of time, you need to work on your game. Bet your hands make them pay to draw.....Go to WWW.conjelco.com and order books on poker...Read and study them...It will be worth the effort! Roy Cooke on 28. | Hi player, If and when you chose to play a hand, you can't just sit there waiting for your hand to improve to a nut hand. Many pots are won by just one top pair in hold-em so you don't want to be checking all the time allowing your opponents to out-draw you or hit runner, runner bs hands because you chose to slowplay a big pair on the flop. Make them pay to outdraw you. If they do....so what, that's poker.....but give yourself and your own holding a chance to win, too. Make the best decisions during the course of all your hands, (try to be aware of when to bet, raise, fold, etc.) and with more playing experience, it might become easier for you to do. Keep playing solid poker, and play your cards correctly. Keep reading.....keep practicing. Good luck. 4 POKER | ||

| If you haven't already read "Lee Jones" book, "Winning at low limit Poker", you should give it a read. This book deals primarily with the types of games you are playing. It addresses the "calling stations" and "casual players" who play way toooo many hands. It has a different perspective than the other poker books which are all based on the higher limits. Good Luck ... Scrubbie | ||

| scrubbie is right. And plan on reading it over and over. I play in those games regularly, and every time my game starts to suffer, I have to re-read it to get back on track. -Moz "I smoke 'cause I'm hoping for an early death, and I need to cling to something." | ||

| So true Moz. The following will come under the category of TMI (Too Much Info) but I read a book or article I've printed from cardplayer every time nature calls (except of course when I get the new SI). On the way to the B&M I look at the cliff notes I made of Sklansky and Warren's books. My biggest problem is starting hands. I know what to play and what not to play but I still have to remind myself every time. It is so easy to throw $3 on a A7 offsuit from EP. Good luck and always read to improve your game. DJpoker | ||

| Yeah, I try to read every chance I get, too. It's funny, the reason I have to keep going back to that book is because I also read a lot of advanced strategy, but the advanced strategy doesn't work in the LL games... I have to jolt myself back to the basics for those every so often. -Moz "I smoke 'cause I'm hoping for an early death, and I need to cling to something." | ||
