I decided to play in my first money Omaha hi-lo tourney today at UB. I had some money left over from my UPF tourney deposit and thought I'd give it a whirl.

Everyone started with 1000 in chips. Early in the tourney I had amassed an amazing 30,000 in chips while my closest opponent had only 8,000. I was definately cruising.

Things were looking good until an emergency called me away from the computer. I left my wife to play my stack. Bad decision. When I came back, I was down to 3,000 and in second to last place.

I fought my way back though and regained my chip lead with 45,000 in chips. I ultimately finished 3rd out of 133. I am pretty excited although there were some atrocious players. First would have been sweet but I'll take what I can get.

Thank you to everyone who make this forum what it is.

Very nice comeback, Slick! $3,000 to $45,000 is sweet, and although you weren't able to come in 1st......placing 3rd in a field of 133 players is not too shabby either. It also gave you some exposure to the game and maybe your next one will be a 1st place one.

All you can do is play your best. Omaha tournaments beome more of gamble sometimes; players taking big risks with inferior holdings and in short term results they're often the ones who get the cheese.

Nice finish anyway, Slick......good for you.

(And I hope "all is well" with you and your family......that's the important thing).

Take care.

Sounds like clicking the "away from table" button might have been a better plan when you had to leave the table! But congrats, sounds like you played a really good game.

Slick:

I was surfing around UB last night and noticed you were up to T14500 pretty early in the tournament. I watched a little bit and you looked like a pro.

I am tempted to try playing too and have been studying the game for a while now.

I am just curious about your conversation with your wife when you got back and found yourself shortstacked. Was this a laughing exchange or something a little more heated?

As a married guy myself I find that scenario utterly hilarious.

I was like "WHAT THE #^%@!!!" I was, of course, just joking with her. She said that she had a "bad run of cards". I gave her a look and said "uh huh."

I thought I was toast but kept my cool and got a little lucky.

You are a better man than me.

But listen, I am seething with jealousy that you have a wife that is, uh, capable of playing your hands at all.

I am trying to teach my lovely and talented wife the game of poker but alas me lady has not taken to it.

I do buy her nice presents with my winnings though.
