what are your opinions on the low cost SNGs at UB. i've only played two and got 1st and 4th. they honestly don't seem that challenging considering i'm a very new player to the game. do any of you guys frequent the UB SNGs?

I have played 31 single table tourneys at partypoker, and I have 4 3rd place finishes, 14 2nd place, and 4 1st. I have only been playing for a little over a year (6 months online).
Plenty of people out there study and read poker books etc., but less than 1/2 of em actually apply what they learn and think they'll get lucky anyway with their pair of sevens.
When I do get knocked out early, it's usually because I bet hard with a good hand (like big slick) and get beat either via a bad beat or a pair. It's amazing how many people read tournament strategy books and still will call to the river with QJ when the blinds are still 10/15.
If you're only playing premium hands early on, loosening up as you get into deeper rounds, and willing to steal blinds with "not-super" hands, you'll probably keep on winning. Otherwise, you may be getting lucky.

I'm also a fairly new player but have become a rabid one recently (err... Not rabid rabid, but playing all the time...)

I play almost only $5 and 10$ sitngos at UB. Except for a single bad run (which was all my fault) where I didn't place three in a row, I haven't had much difficulty. Sometimes there is another good player or two, and things can become difficult... and sometimes the deck is just frozen over (34 unplayable hands, even in shorthanded.... but anyway), but generally speaking its pretty easy.

Net record to date is 21 shorthanded sit n gos - 15 placements. If I can do it, anyone with expierence can. I don't play longhanded very well, only placing in 1/3rd or so (about break even now)... The ring games can also be fairly easy - least, once you get used to them. It took me a while (I was down ~70$ at the .25/.50 table!!! Now net down about 30$...). Ah, the learning curve.

It has gotten harder lately though, as more good players are moving towards the sngs.

Funny Gatsby, I have the reverse experience. The ring games are where I have made all my profit. The $2-4 games at UB are great and very beatable. Too crazy at Party Poker (just too many maniacs). UB has a nice mix of loose passive types with some good players.

Maybe I am just playing the wrong sits, but I am finding the $10 sits to have some decent players and fewer clueless types.

I used to win the limit sit and gos like crazy (my record in Limit Sit and gos is like Timmay!) but I have just recently started playing NL and have not been successful (yet).

But its coming...

For some reason Greg I have been winning like crazy in the Sitngos at Party Poker but cannot buy one at UB. My last 5 at Party are 1-2-4-2-1. At UB, I am on a 10 sit and go no money streak (almost all of them 4th place finishes, arggghhh). 3 of these were in Aruba qualifying events.

Nonetheless, the Sits at UB are very beatable, I have just taken some bad beats (and probably played poorly in a couple of them, especially the ones I have played during bouts of insomnia).

I just started playing at PartyPoker and am relatively new to tournament play and Hold Em. I got my butt kicked in the first few but now I've been placing in about 50% or better of the $5 and $10 tourneys.

I decided to spend some winnings and jump in to the $30 games but I got knocked out on the first hand with a K high 3 card flush to the Ace. That really burned, lol. I usually avoid the first hand madness but I caught the flush on a cheap turn bet and figured I would gamble.

Of course the next $10 game, first hand, I'm once again holding a K high on a 4 card flush and two players before me go all in on the river. I didn't want to get burned twice and on a 4 card flush surely one of them had the ace so I folded. One guy had a 8 and the other a queen. Bastards.

The cheap tables are easy to win consistently but they make so many bizarre moves it can be hard to judge their hands.

Just to add-

My first tournament I naively jumped into the $25 pre qualifier for the Party Poker Million...

and won. hehe.

Hopefully I can hold my own in the semi's.

They are easy money. If you are an excellent player you should be able to money in 50% of the $10+1 sng's.
