Call In List ??, Vito Casucci, 27. Jul 2003 08:52

I have always been of the opinion that a call in list is not the fair way to go about running a room. What can be more fair than "first come, first served".
And because of my opinion, I have not allowed call ins in my room (Ameristar, St Charles) for several years.
I would like some feedback on whether you honestly think call ins should be taken. Just keep in mind, next time you walk into a poker room to put yourself on a list and the phone rings 1 second before you walk in, that person on the phone will be ahead of you.

I think it is a bad policy....First it gets the regulars into the game ahead of the unknowing and makes the games much tougher. Also, it makes the list long as people call in and don't show and players give up on waiting when they look at the list.......It also make the cardroom appear to be favoring the regulars, which is a bad image for a cardroom to have!

Call in is fine as long as that player is moved to the bottom of the list when the seat becomes available and has not shown up yet. Standard policy of keeping that name in place is the objectionable issue. If I'm playing at a shorthanded table in the morning which has obviously gone all night, I may make a decision to stay longer if I see some call in activity. Allowing call in players for higher limit games that aren't expected to start until late afternoon is almost an expected curtesy.

I tried to call in to my local B&M last night and the lady laughed at me. She knew me, but told me to just drive faster. I actually enjoy jamming into the parking lot and racing the other person to the board.
Usually I find I'm a bit more quick and nimble than the other folks. LMAO. Try it yourself next time if you get there the same time as another car. I've actually raced a couple people before. It makes for great conversation when you both end up waiting because your 4th and 5th on the list anyway. Just say no to the call-ins. DJpoker

I think a restricted call list would work. Let regulars call in to get on the list, but if they show up after they are called (and nothing stupid happened like 10 people leaving in 10 minutes) then they lose their call in privelidges.

I'd like it just for the fact that it can really suck to drive an hour or two to a casino only to find a 3 or 4 hour wait.

What do you do? If you are me, you go against 4Poker's advice and lose half of your cash on Black Jack. Then you sit at a Stud table to get schooled. And then after you and your buddies are ready to go they call your name. Ugh!

If I lived closer to the Casino I would just turn around and go home. Take a nap. And come back in a couple hours. But that just ain't an option.

Hey TK,
I guess I agree that a long drive followed by a long wait would suck. Being only 8 minutes and 34 seconds from my B&M has its pros and obvious cons. In your situation, I would talk to the floorguy and set up some sort of deal. If they value your patronage, they will give you some kind of concession due to the drive. My long drive is 2:30 to stateline and 3:00 into vegas. Good luck out there. Djpoker

You guys must have some small rooms or play pretty exlusive HL tables. At the casinos in AZ I have never waited more than 30min when the place was packed.
