Did I make right decision??, Tig1010, 26. Jul 2003 12:46

Last night I was playing at UB in a Pot Limit, multi-table tournament.

40 people left in tournament, I was 22 in chip size, top 20 finishers paid out.

I was UTG, and had 10 10, blinds were 200-400, I raised it up to $400 to go, next 2 fold, 3rd raises it to $1,400 to go, rest fold.

I call his raise, and flop comes, 9 5 2 rainbow....i then bet pot, he calls, 4th is a 3, I then bet rest of my stack, he calls.....5th was a J.

He was holding AA. Was I right to even call is large re-raise?? He had been playing loose, and I put him on a medium pair, or AK, AQ.

After the flop - should I have just checked? or bet out a small amount?

This has been bothering me all day....Thanks.

Todd

Hi. I feel there are several things you might want to do differently:

1 - It is not a great idea to play TT in early position in a PL or NL format. The hand is very vulnerable, and anyone calliong or raising has a very good chance to beat you.
2- Calling the raise is very bad. Your opponent either has a big pair, in which case you are drawing very thin, or AK, in which case you are a toss-up. If you KNEW it was AK, you could call, But you don't. So you are calling a big raise out of position as a huge dog or a tiny favorite. Not good.
3 - You make a pot sized bet on the flop and he calls. Alarm bells should start blasting in your head. Unless he is a total fool, you are beat. He is not calling this kind of bet with AK. And, according to point 2, if he does not have AK, you are toast.

I played a similar had in a NL event. After an early player limped, I made a pot sized raise. He (and only he) called. I was curious what he could have to limp, and then call a big bet. Anyway, the flop came rags, he checked, and I made another pot sized bet. He called again. This was too much for me. I could not imagine having the best hand any more (and I didn't as he was waitig with AA.). I gave up.

I hope this helps.
