Can anyone tell me why no-limit tournaments etc is preferred by most pros over limit?...Is it not best to seek out the best action(worse players) and play the games they feel most comfortable in...New players I've know over the years prefer limit!!

NL is a ton more exciting. A player can quickly get back into a game if they are short stacked (provided they get the right cards, of course). It is a true balls-to-the-wall game and not for the meak of heart. What else can a poker player ask for?

Hey greg,

In no-limit you can manipulate the size of the bet in realtion to the pot. This means you can give your opponents much worse odds when they draw. Also, in this type of tournament, one mistake can mean you're gone, even on the first hand. No limit provides the opportunity for more skilled players to make a vast array of moves.

So point of fact would be that worse players have a better chance at limit?....
I quite possibly wrongly felt that in limit tournaments although fluctuations happen...that the better players win....and that the limit provides a cushion of error and bad luck not offered in n/l.

I believe that the better players will win in Limit but the stupid mistakes bad players make won't cripple them. In a limit tournament you need to make 3 or 4 bad mistakes to get knocked out in the early stages of the tournament. In No Limit, one bad read and you're in serious trouble.

No-limit has more skill and the best players are more likely to rise to the top.....I also think it gets the heart beating faster than limit!

Still not convinced of anything yet...and heartbeating is the last thing I crave...lol....I've been in a few limit tourneys lately on party and they've lasted well over 4 hours...gotta believe the "cream" is rising there..I however wholeheartedly agree skill shines in n/l....i think limit is where the weaker players are...they get to see plenty of flops and have many chances for the elusive "miracle"flop...I checked out ub's tourney schedule today.....not 1 limit holden !!!...I'm missing something

not sure which UB you are looking at but i see plenty of limit tournaments:

http://www.ultimatebet.com/games/tournament_schedule.html

there are only 4 or so during the weekends (since they are most busy then and more people play NL) but during the week there are plenty. not to mention the limit sit-and-gos which are happening constantly....

Limit is more crapshooty than NL when there are bad players in the game. Basically, you're unable to really punish bad players who call big raises when they shouldn't and as a result many limit tourneys are very luck based. Get a few beats and you're out. In a NL tourney you can sit in the weeds and not play, then double through on a key hand. NL really rewards the best players much more than limit.
