Are Online Bonuses Reliable?, BillyBob, 25. Jul 2003 08:08

I'm not concerned about the big sites. But what about the smaller sites? Anyone have any concerns about earning them?

Someone gave a bonus code for Party Poker. All I had to do was sign up with Party, deposit $50 and they gave me a $25 bonus after I played 125 raked hands. The bonus code was: PAYMENOW if anyone is interested.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with bonus codes on other sites?

That's a pretty sneaky way to try to get referrals.

Not worth it. If they gave you $25 at once then its cool. But they deposit pennies per hand most of the time and you never even notice it. That offer looks like about 20 cents per hand, but its hard to believe.

Remember, nothing is for free. They get 100 fold the amount it costs them to pay out 25 over the course of many many games.

The partypoker bonuses are pretty easy to collect. Since you get credit for "a raked hand" you can sit at a NL table, play very tight, and get 8-10 raked hands for the cost of a BB and SB, or $0.75. 200 hands is going to cost you $15, you should easily get 125 raked hands in 200 hands.

I've been screwed by a small site before. Victor Chandler Poker (www.vcpoker.com) ... I played a freeroll, they awarded me my prize money, and then when I tried to withdraw it, they kept it and told me that they were disqualifying me from the tournamnet (after they had paid me for winning it. Uh-huh ... very coincidental with me withdrawing the money). Anyhow, don't count on getting paid by anybody who doesn't have a good reputation. It doesn't take much to put up a website these days.
