Here's a very interesting (real) hand, from a recent 3/6 B&M HE game. In the BB, you're dealt As4s. Table is loose and passive. Five limpers. You check. Flop comes 2h3h5d, giving you a straight. UTG, you bet, and get three callers.

Turn: Ac. No help to you, but helping someone else make the same straight. Again, you bet. Again, everyone calls, no raises. River: 4h, putting *your* straight on the board. Now, anyone with a 5 or any two hearts has you beat--which is fairly depressing considering you flopped the straight! You check. An EP player bets, and it's raised by the person to your right.

Here's the question: Do you call the raise hoping for a split pot or get out here? (outcome below).

I called (like a dunce). The raiser had a flush (holding KJh!) .

Although some players will make a bet or raise when playing the board, I don't like calling here with two ways not to split - a six or flush. Everyone liked the flop and turn enough to stick around to bets coming from a blind hand. You got drawn out on, get ready for the next hand.

Mk - funny thing is, I said to myself "the right thing to do here is fold" but I am sure I would have called too. If I had a dollar back for every time...

I would muck in this spot. It sucks, and if the board hadn't brught your str8 or the flush card didn't come (meaning you had only 1 other way to lose), I would call. But, with two ways to lose and a player who was passive throughout suddenly getting excited, I would fold. He most likely has a good flush or a 6. Save your $$.

I forgot where I read this but some book or site says that a str8 draw or made hand becomes less valuable when the flop comes with 2 suited cards.

As I was reading your post, I thought to myself, the two hearts on the flop could be trouble.

It's easy for me to say since I am not in the middle of the hand, but the raise would be a strong signal to me that he made his flush draw.
