| So in addition to set-limit ring games, it seems most sites also offer NL tables, where there is a maximum for which you can buy in. I have a few thoughts about this: I realize that the reason limit poker was 'invented' was so that fish didn't lose their money so quickly. I also realize the inherent safety in a limit game. No matter how badly you screw up, you can only lose so much. However, it seems that if a person were to play NL, and their strength was knowing on the flop (guesstimating) whether or not they had the best hand, and by how much, that NL would really enable a strong player to punish fish, thus making money more quickly. I want to hear some of your opinions on this. There are countless posts concerning limit strategy. And there are countless posts concerning NL strategy, with respect to tournaments. However, I don't recall ever seeing a post concerning NL ring games. I would like to hear some of your opinions on the pros and cons of playing this sort of game. Thanks, SKinner | ||

| I avoid limit games, tournament or ring, like the plague. When I played low limit ring games, I had no way to protect my top pair or 2 pair from the draws. I noticed I had better success at NL sit and gos because I could raise enough to scare off the draws. I started to play NL ring games and have had better results than the limit ring games. I have made a few mistakes that cost dearly. But I have been able to recover from most of these mistakes by waiting for my cards to come and betting strong. It made me realize that if I eliminate the mistakes, i.e. folding to certain all in bets, I would bet up by a large amount. For me NL ring and NL SNG is the only thing I want to play. | ||

| I have to agree with the Dr. I just can't defend a mid or top flopped pair in a low limit game. To me NL is the only way to play. I haven't tried a NL ring game but I might have to give it a try. | ||

| Yes, NL makes the fish lose their wad much faster than limit. The reason most B&M casinos don't spread NL games is because these games tend to die out when all the fish have been tapped out. The online rooms, I think, have come up with a nice compromise for NL by restricting the buyin to a given maximum. Fish go broke less quickly that way. | ||

| The local cardroom near me (Oceans 11 Casino in Oceanside, CA) has begun spreading NL hold'em games. I think the one the spread most often is a $100 buy in game, with $1,$3 blinds. I haven't played in it yet but it looks pretty good. I like having a specified buy in for NL games. | ||
