| What defines an advanced play? It seems I want to call all my plays with negative expectation "advanced" since nobody without my knowledge of the game would try to pull these things off. Better yet, if a play isn't "advanced", it's a no brainer, and non-advanced players make them routinely, and I'm sure there are more plays in this game that aren't either "advanced" or "negative expectation". I don't want to go into examples, because it's too easy to label each instance. | ||

| It is a play which can be correct for a situation that does not occur frequently. | ||

| And advanced play, in my books, violates ABC play and is therefore -EV on the surface, but is actually +EV because of the expert knowledge the player has. For example, checkraising with nothing on a bluff is a nonstandard move. Generally, if you have nothing and somebody bets you want to fold your nothing - you don't bluff by raising generally. If you know, however that the bettor is on 1 pair and gives lots of respect to checkraises then you'll either be able to fold him on your checkraise of the turn or fold him on the river if he doesn't improve. Now if a player is checkraise bluffing randomly that is a -EV play, but if a player picks the right spot it can be a very much +EV play. So I guess I would define an advanced play as something that seems like a bad idea on the surface, but is a good idea when all information is taken into consideration. | ||
