Did I play this hand right?

I am in mid position, with a QJ offsuit. I call the BB before the flop, the flop comes Qxx. 2 checks to me. I bet the pot, about $3. Everyone folds to the button, guy on the button raises it to $6. I was tired of being pushed around (will explain than next) and went all in for about $12 (About another $6 to the raiser) He calls...He looses my queens held up - But this guy called with an AJ ( I think it was suited) - So I think he was drawing for the flush. Did I overplay this ?

2nd - earlier at the same table, I am again in mid position. Have a AJ off suit , I raise $2 , guy on the button comes over the top for almost $20. I had about $12 at this time and did not call. Did I make the right play here? (The guy who raised me had about $40 and had been pushing people around with large raises)

Thanks for your helpful feedback in advance

Good fold on the 2nd story. I guess this is no limit if you're betting $2 and he's betting $20. He could be sitting on a big pair, or a higher ace. If it is no limit, maybe your bet should've been more.

First story.....He has to have kings or aces, and most people play those heavier early (he called BB in a perfect raising position). He could have a higher queen, that's all I'm scared of. You were tilting and you won it, realize that!! He wasn't chasing the flush in my opinion. You don't normally call an all-in without a made hand, but with his middle pair and top kicker, he took the 9 outs into consideration and called. I like your aggession here with top pair. With 2 queens out, he'd be forced to have an ace or king to go with a queen to beat you.........or a loose 2 pair.

Yes, I know I was on a bit of a tilt but the 2 pair was what I was worried about.....But, what I was insterested was he had no pair when he called, only Ace high....and the way I see it , he really only had 3 outs - He must of figured me not to have the queens but a lower pair because a pair of jacks would not of won, he would of had to hit the ace to win....I am trying to figure out what his thought process was in calling my heavy raise.

There are only a few reasonable thoughts to consider...

His stance:
1. I have 2nd pair and top kicker, so any other pair of jacks loses.
2. I have 2nd pair and top kicker, so any lower pair loses.
3. Only 3 cards put me in a position to lose (queens)
4. If "he" (which means you) had Aces or Kings, he would've raised pre-flop.
5. If he does have a queen, I have 9 outs to my nut flush.
6. It's only $3 and I'm feeling lucky.

If he had a flush draw to go with his ace high, he absolutely made the right call. He has 12 outs and 2 cards to get there, and the pot is paying him 3 to 1. Otherwise, I don't know what he was thinking. Maybe he thought you were full of it and ace high was the best? Kind of a long shot, but who knows.
