Poker Seminar & Exhibition!, pokerpromoter, 21. Jul 2003 13:04
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
Greetings!

I have posted before about holding a Poker Tournament in Florida - and we are making great strides.

Here's my thought: I want to put together a "Power Poker Weekend"!

Have the Super Poker Challenge Texas Hold "em Poker Tournament AND have an awesome Poker Seminar and Exhibition conducted by several World Class Poker Players and/or Authors.

My question is: Who would you like to spend the weekend with while enjoying a poker learning experience and playing in a Super Poker Tournament and share in a $200,000 Pot?

Any names come to mind? And if so - do you have their contact info?

Thanks,

Tom Coleman

Personally,

The poker professionals I would like to meet most are two of the youngest and brightest stars: 1. Phil Ivey and 2. Lane Flack. I would also enjoy meeting Howard Lederer. But, MOST IMPORTANTLY, make the event NON-SMOKING....please....please and please! I have had it with smoke filled card rooms and will never play in one again!

Good point. most poker players these days prefer a smoke free environment, but I would suggest that you have a place where the smoking players can go to have a quick cigarette during breaks in the tourney.

All the tournaments have been going non-smoking lately. The one at the Orleans in Vegas just went non-smoking this year and even the WSOP tournament room went non-smoking as well....never thought that would ever happen but more and more, the smokers are being shut out. Although I'm a smoker myself, I know if I wasn't one.....I would hate to play in a room that was clouded by smoke. Like anything else...you should always go with the majority, especially when it's a health issue.

Only problem is at the WSOP and other events the smokers hang out at the rail that is real close. It helps not having someone smoking right next to you but it is still not 100%. But its a great start.

Actually, there are two rooms where poker is played at the WSOP. The poker room downstairs is still a smoking room, but the room where the tournament is spread (upstairs), is totally non-smoking and the only place a railbird could smoke would be to go outside the room all-together. They did just change that this year though.

Well, ask him. He's active on this board and I know that he does speaking engagements. I'll bet he'd come down and talk. I have no idea what his fee would be though.

If I had to make a choice, I would chose Amirillo Slim (who I met briefly this year while getting his autograph for *someone*, and yes, I will mail it to you, "you know who"), because I'd really enjoy listening to some of his great poker stories and how it was back then.

I'd also like to chat with Mike Caro. I saw him for a quick second at the cage at the WSOP 3 years ago, and almost didn't recognize him....he is so tall! Anyway, there's something about him that I find to be very interesting and would love the chance to listen to his psychological aspects of the game.

You might check and see if Jim Moore is interested in lecturing about professional internet poker playing. He goes by Krazy Kanuck and can be found playing on Ultimate Bet. I don't want to post his email address here, but if you are interested in bringing him, I can email him with your info and get you in touch. He lectured at Bellagio recently, so I assume he would be up for it if you brought him down there. I don't know what sort of compensation he would expect. Mike Caro, who posts here has done a lot of speaking engagements in the past, so he would be one to ask as well. I don't know if Roy Cooke from here does speaking engagements, but again, it probably wouldn't hurt to ask him.

For that matter, if you were willing to cover our expenses and pay our entry into the tournament, Wren and I would be willing to teach poker strategy sessions, lecture on play, or any of that. Our posts here on UPF can speak to our experience and pedagogical talents. The two of us can speak to different styles of play and different specialities within poker and of course Wren can speak to the aspect of playing poker as a woman. If you're interested you can send me email to dook@0wned.no_spam.org (take out the .no_spam)

I would like to see/hear some of the players that are among the best players today, Phil Helmuth, Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Gus Hanson, it would be good to get a few that have different styles of play. As for Mike Caro I am sure would be able to contribute a lot to the event in a variety of topics.

ps - no smoking is a must...

Krazy's name is Jim Worth. Where'd you get Moore from, dude?

And were you gonna consult me before offering up my "pedagogical" talents to the masses? Apparently not. Silly poo. :P

Of course it is Worth. Where did I get Moore from? I've been reading my turing machine books too much.

Nope. I'll tell you how it is and you'll do what you're told. Wren, this is the end of the post. Don't read any farther down.

Guys, I am in such deep trouble for that you have *NO* idea.

I left a message for Mr. Caro.

We're trying to make this Tournament much more than just a Tournament. So, your opinions are important.

Anyother ideas are appreciated.

If you want Phil Hellmuth to come down, you can go to philhellmuth.com and email him. He offers his service to small groups for $10K a night. Don't know what he would charge for a larger group. No I'm not pumping his site, just giving you info. Hope it helps.

Where at in Florida? That is my birth state. DJpoker
