| Does anyone have any opinions on the hand KQ in No Limit i am slowly realising that it is a real dog and should be played with extreme caution. Presuming it is early in the tourny and all stacks are even. 1/What do people do with in early position ? raise or limp and hope for a flop ? 2/What about in a later position when faced with a pot sized bet from a player you know nothing about ? 3/ On the flop would you call a pot sized bet if you flopped top pair with the Q, even worse what about flopping top pair with the K ? 4/Finally if short stacked ( but with enough chips to see maybe another 3 orbits) what about its properties of going all in with it ? Is it a hand that if called all in is so dominated it isnt worth a lot ? I find myself more and more throwing away this hand to raises from players i respect or at least playing with caution. Is it a hand that wins a little or loses a lot ? Cheers CP | ||

| my experence is that it is a hand that can get you in a lot of trouble. up front, i wouldn't play it until the end of the tournament. in back, if you can get in cheaply, otherwise better to stay away from. if you know opponent, maybe. | ||

If you flopped top pair of K's the hand that would beat you is 2 pair or AK. If someone was holding AK they may be more aggressive and this should be a tip off. > > 4/Finally if short stacked ( but with enough chips to see maybe another 3 > orbits) what about its properties of going all in with it ? If all check then you should raise to knock out some people. Be ready to fold and decided how much you are going to spend on the hand. KQ have won many straights for me. | ||

| Just my story here.... yesterday I was in the Aruba Super Satellite on UB and I was getting low on chips. I get KQ of hearts in the hole and stick around for the flop. The flop comes Kxx with two hearts. Now, I have the top pair and 4 hearts. Because I'm starting to dwindle I go al in. The BB calls with A5 of hearts. I'm still the favorite, but he gets an Ace on the river and I'm gone. That hurt. | ||

| I don't like this hand unless it is folded to me in middle position or later. In early position, I usually won't play it unless I am short-stacked, or if it's later in the tourney, I might raise with it as a semi-bluff steal. In this case, if I get played with I'm probably going to dump it, as I'm mostly just hoping to pick up the antes or maybe somebody will just call and I'll get lucky and get a huge flop. I'm just playing for the pot, however, not because the hand has any real value. Even suited you might get trapped by a higher flush and lose all your money. Overall, it's a hand that you can easily lose all your chips to in many different ways. I like how TJ describes it as the "plague of NL hold'em." That pretty much sums it up. | ||

| I like the hand for a limp call in LP or as a blind stealer if I'm a chip leader and the blinds are very short-stacked. But I won't call a raise with it because it really isn't much of a hand to begin with and many times your hand will be dominated and often you'll have to hit it twice to win. It's the kinda hand where unless you flop the straight or trips, you really never know where you stand and it's hard to commit your stack if you flop a Q and even a K in many situations. if you can get in cheap in LP with no potential sandbaggers in front of you, then you can make the call and release it unless it hits you really really good, OR if one of the blinds makes a big raise and is not low on chips. 4 POKER | ||
