How long do you expect the party fishes to stay afloat?, palman, 18. Jul 2003 23:45

How long do you think it will be that the games are this profitable on the site. Once the WPT goes off the air for a few months and they lose their deposit?

The beauty about poker is the good sessions the fish have they attribute to skill, and the bad sessions they attribute to bad luck (I know , because I did the same thing for quite some time)

I don't consider myself a great poker player, but the strategies I have come up with against the level of competition I am up against are proving quite effective, yet I'm worried about how long this will last.

Another observation: I ALWAYS seem to do much much better on the weekends than on the weekdays. I'm still profitable on the weekdays, but I think I can claim without exxageration that I have averaged out to be 5 times more profitable on the weekends, than the weekdays, averaging 8-10 hours a day of play.

I used to think that this was because people had more free time, but thought tonight as I was sipping on a beer that perhaps its due to more players being drunk.

I'll bet many people on here will testify on here to how great of an idea playing poker while drunk seems to be and has done the same.

IMO, this is just the beginning of the fish schooling. The # of players could easily double in the next year, especially if the poker industry wakes up to what is happening as a result of the TV exposure. NEVER, EVER, play poker for money when drinking, unless its nickel dime at home with your buds. Strip poker, on the other hand is a different story.

I also find the weekends more profitable. However, the reason seems to be that I am just able to play longer sessions and therefore able to outlast the suckouts and eventually solid poker drags me the chips. On weekday evenings I find myself sitting in for short sessions (15-30 min) and find it very difficult to make up for even one or two lost pots, unless I am just lucky and getting a lot of premium hands to play.

I agree with Gary here....I can't say that I could testify to the idea of playing while intoxicated as being a *good* idea. You may have fun while doing so, but your own abilities would surely dimenish. Now...if the others want to play drunk, that's a different story....but that is where I would take advantage of the situation but I definitely wouldn't chime in......not for any real money anyway!!

Now....when you ask about "how long will the fishes stay afloat"?......I think they'll be enough of them coming in and out of the poker scene for you to profit from, as long as your own game keeps improving.

I find that UB is already starting to dry up a little. It is still really good action and much better than it was before they had their commercial on the Travel Channel starring peasant (Juuha Hellpi (sp?)), but I think a of lot the fish are improving or quitting. This is the way these thigns go. Perhaps more will flux in with next year's Aruba event ... perhaps not. There will always be more fish out there though - it is just a quesion of who attracts the new ones at any given moment.
