It seems like many of you have played on ub and I am wondering what your experience has been.
I am concerned about collusion etc. etc. I have heard good things about Paradise but I dont know too much about Ultimate.

Thank you

I don't think that UB itself is at all dishonest, but I do think that it is very possible for collusion. From what I have seen there is no attempt made to prevent collusion. For instance, I've sat down at the same table with Wren, and we normally play from the same home computer. When we have sat down at the same table (and we play honestly of course), there has been nothing from UB. There would really be nothing to stop us from colluding. Other sites, such as Truepoker, make an attempt to prevent collusion by blocking pairs of players from sitting together if they have too much in common etc. Sounds like it is a bit of overkill, but I think that is necessary to really stop collusion.

All that said, I don't think it is a big deal. I only play in the cheap arenas where the players are so terrible it doesn't matter if they are colluding and where the profit you would make from cheating wouldn't be worth the effort. I would think twice about playing in the really big games though.

Collusion can not be stopped and its not that big of a deal.

Preventing It...smart software only goes so far. People can call each other on the phone, sit with different computers, IP addresses, etc.

Big Deal? No..how much can these people conspire to. If you have the best hand they do not know it. Sure they may know if one has KK and the other K2 that a K on the flop is less likely.

I am not worried about it, if you have good cards and know how to play em the collusion should not be a problem.

Wait a minute here. If you honestly think that collusion can not hurt you, you better think again...I'm serious. If you're playing in a game where 2 or 3 buddies are chiming in over the phone about their hands, that can and *will* only hurt you unless you always flop the absolute nuts. Players can make all types of moves to get you to fold or call just by the way they bet their hands. You'll also be unable to make any bluffs, value bets, and things of that nature. And anytime a player gets an advantage...even an illegal and dishonest one, your own advantages of being a skilled and good player are now diminished, no matter how insignifigant you think it may be.

True, my thinking was more on the lines of tournaments. But the tables games could cause a problem. When its 10 players for hours at a time.

Only solution is leave the table and get another one if you feel your getting taken advantage of.

Good Point 4 POKER, I did not think of it that way, especially with more than 2 players conspiring.

Collusion can absolutely hurt players. The partners have more outs and more control of the betting. Bluffing is enhanced. Who ever says that collusion is not an issue in online games is an idiot. Any bit of information helps. If three people are colluding together then they are at a huge advantage just by the extra information they have. Throw in the betting control and extra outs and the other players are all but done.

Haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. You get people screaming when someone draws out on the river, or if AA gets dealt two hands in a row, but these things happen.

I believe all the big online sites are reviewed and certified by Price and Waterhouse to ensure the random card dealing.
