Do on-line stats mean anything?, Barry T, 18. Jul 2003 15:25

Hi,. A number of on-line players are using programs to generate statistics relating to their play. Such numbers as
% of flops seen (both in blinds and not)
% of hands played to river
% won on river
%won vs number of flops seen
% of pre-flop raises

and stuff like that.

The question is, do these numbers mean anything? Are they just data, or they have the ability to also be information you can use to improve your game? Can you tell from the numbers what needs fixing, and, more important, how to fix it?

B&M players have no opportunity to generate such numbers, so there are no standards. Can there even be standards, or should the stats vary widely depending on the game you are in and the players you are facing?

Please let me know your opinion. I have one too, but it is not yet well formed.

Thanks.
