Have I really been playing poker?, ezcheese, 18. Jul 2003 11:34 | ||

| Ok, on these forums, when asked how long people have been playing poker, you get replies such as 7 months or 2 months or the like... I'm curious as to what you guys actually consider "playing" poker... I have played poker for 4 years but if averaged out I played about once every 3 months during those 4 years... I've only been to the casino 3 times (and i can't go for a long time now that they changed the gambling age to 21 in AZ)... and recently I've been playing friendly home games about 1-2 times a week... I frequent this forum almost every day and I own wilson's turbo software but don't use it that frequently... can I even say that I've been "playing" poker? When someone asks me how long I've been playing I have no clue what to say... what do you guys think? | ||

| I have been playing poker all my life in terms of getting into a game once or twice a month. I have been "playing" poker for over a year now if you think of poker as going to the casino enough to be a part time job. There is no clear definition of what it is, but a good indication is when you start keeping detailed records and counting the hours that you spend at a table. | ||

| I would consider 'playing poker' as it applies on this forum as the amount of time since you've started taking it seriously. I've been playing for for a couple of years but only on Hoyle Casino. I've only begun studying and concentrating on learning how to play the game well since the beginning of May. I never considered playing with college buddies for pennies while drunk 'playing poker'. By that rationale, before May, I had played poker where something was at stake (whether it's my money or my potential for a poker education) 3 times. Hope that helps. beigs on 18. | If that is true, then I have been playing poker since I was in my momma's belly. (I call your Fallopian tube, and raise you one Ovary) I was tired of my inconsistent play over the years, so I hired a poker pro, and I cannot tell you how much of a difference it made in my game. Not only in my game (starting cards theory, post flop play) but also in the game within the game (using what I know about my opponents against them, using what they know about "me" against "them") I would say I have been playing "good solid poker" for about 6 months now. I have a winning record (I keep detailed records). I play mostly at B&M casinos, but have recently increase my play On-Line. (I still prefer to play against people in person. I feel I have an edge in person) Scrubbie "I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I'm interested in getting lessons from a pro. I think I have a decent foundation, but I'd like someone to "mold" me into a better player. :) Peter | ||

| This guy is really awesome. On top of being cool guy, he is very patient. Foe some, it isn't as easy as you think to "unlearn" what you think you know. I hired him to teach me "No Limit". We met once a week for about two months. After my first two session, I went 6 sessions straight without a loss. (My longest winning streak at a B&M) It more than paid for the lessons. I went 10 and 3 after that. It is so nice to walk into a card room, and feel like I have an edge. E-mail me @ Don_cornelious@hotmail.com and I will give you the info. Make your subject line ... UPF! p.s. - Anyone else who wants to get the info, please feel free to e-mail me at that address. Scrubbie | ||

| Well, you have been playing poker since you started playing poker. Roy Cooke on 18. | i agree to an extent... but in the sense of "playing poker" that is used as reference on this forum... paying poker is meant in a serious nature.. like keeping logs, buying books, spending 20+ hours at poker games, etc. | ||

| Try to measure it by hour, if your playing once a month at a casino for 6 hours each session then that is 72 hours a year..... | ||

| oops meant this to be the rest of my response, I am still shaken from being eliminated by studioh last night..... so if you play 72 hours of poker for one year ...would you consider yourself to be playing poker for "1 year" or less than 4 days?????? | ||

| Well, don't feel too bad about it. You did have me beat on the flop. Nonetheless, that particular situation was just too tempting. I could lose without being toast, win to give me a commanding lead, and had the luxury of having seen you go all in 2-3 times each orbit. I figured you for one pair at best. Not to be too dicky about it, but, *ahem* (insert big boy voice) that's what you get for pushing in with bottom pair, no kicker. | ||
