| What are the prospects of making this a weekly event? I was surprised at how many people played and that wasn't even everyone on the forum. It'd be great to do this regularly. Maybe even play other games (as long as we keep the buy in cheap!) I wonder if UB (or whatever site would host) would be able to have a 'private' registry where people who are registered here would gain access to these tournaments. Just a thought. I don't know if it's possible. beigs | ||

| I was wondering the same thing. I wan't able to play yesterday, but I'd be very interested in playing in future UPF tournaments. Johnny. | ||

| I don't think we should have them weekly. IMO, they should be sort of a "special" thing - we should have lots of time to get worked up and lay the smak down before each one :O) I'd like to have one about once/month. | ||

| I agree with Wren. To hold these weekly would just cheapen the experience. Seeing that it was $11 with UB doubling the payouts, monthly seems about right. I probably won't catch up on these past threads until Sunday, but from what I've already read it seems you played top poker and deserved the win. | ||

| I doubt that UB would double them again though. They've got their promotional value out of UPF. | ||

| I think Wren should celebrate her victory for a month. A one week celebration does not make it special. Plus, I need about a month to figure out ways to take Wren down! Especially after she cracked my AA with a K-3 the first time and for beating my 3 Q's with a flush last night..on the river! : ) Mike n 18. | LOL...you're never gonna let me down about the K3 incident, huh? And, to be anal, the flush was actually made on the turn - the card that gave you trips was the Q of diamonds, which also gave me the flush. Not that it matters as all the money went in on the flop ;) on 18. Jul 2003 09:12 Mike812 wrote: > I think Wren should celebrate her victory for a month. | Did you have K-10 ? I barely remember that hand as it went by so fast. DO you think was a bad call by me to go all-in with Q-10? ALso, did I play any of the hands wrong do you think? Your advice on my wimpy play with the AA has helped me a lot so anything else you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. I dont think I could have made it as far as I did without your posts giving me advice and encouragement through my bad beat month! Mike on 18. | I think you played a very solid tourney Mike. I think that you were a little too agressive in the heads up game at the end and I think that you were also a little too weak. I saw a lot of places where you would raise, but not call a big reraise, which (without having seen your cards of course) would lead me to believe that you were raising a few too many hands. | ||

| stdioh, Making the final table was a thrill for me, but when I realized I had to go against Wren heads up (of course I am going to be intimidated). I am on the forum asking you, wren, and TK, etc for advice all the time. And here I am playing against Wren head up for #1. It was an experience. My strategy was to bluff, smei-bluff and try to last as long as I could and then go in for the kill when she re-raises me thinking that I was bluffing. The times that I did re-raise Wren, I had a hand then she obv mucked. When Wren re-raised me, I mucked without question because I wanted to catch her on a bluff when she re-raised me and go all-in. Which is what I did, on the wrong hand. lol. I guess thats my inexperience showing in a heads up battle. I can send the tourney history out once I get it. Thanks Mike www.pokeranon.com | ||

| Thanks for the kind words, Mike. But hey - that's what we're all here for, right? To help each other kick ass!! :D Your QT all in was a little dicey, but not bad. You were pretty much gambling on me not having a K or stronger, or an 00ber-draw like I had. But with me coming right out and betting pot, you've gotta be a little worried (I know I was playing aggressively and bluffing a decent amount, but it wasn't often that I'd make a pot-sized bet out of position on a bluff or really weak hand). All in all, I thought you played a very tough heads up match. You took a few decent pots off of me when you reraised me from the BB, and then made a strong bet on the flop. You were very aggressive, tricky and strong, but you weren't being maniacal. To be honest, I thought you might have been outplaying me on the flop, which was why I was more willing to reraise all-in with fairly marginal holdings preflop (I did that a couple times with A-small). With the blinds that big, it could have very easily gone either way. on 18. Jul 2003 09:35 Mike812 wrote: > Did you have K-10 ? I barely remember that hand as it went by so fast. | I should also point out here that she was up/down with a flush draw, so on the flop she had more than a 50% chance of winning the hand. | ||

| I can say I would be for it, though obviously making it every week may be harder for some (those some including me! :) ). It might also be good to move it back ever so slightly, if possible. I was lucky getting home before it started (skipping work isn't a great plan in the long run!). I don't know if anyone is in a major city on the west coast, but I can't imagine Vancouver being the worst - and I often don't get home till 6:30 (9:30 EST). Of course, this isn't a major deal if we can drop out of the tourny beforehand... but if it stays as a manual registry... I think its sort of a win-win situation. Us fishes tend to get to learn from some solid players... but more than that, we can talk about it. That alone is worth the cost of entry. And of course, the good players stand a good chance of making money! :) Who can complain about that! As a community event, it was great! Not to mention the UB matching, though I doubt they will do that again :) Incidently, is there a hand analyzer available to read the data from UB? I could swear my hands sucked last night =p (Common! Help me with an excuse! Please!) | ||

| You're from Vancouver? I grew up there. Wren and I will be there for the third week of August and I'm hoping we can put in a session at the Holliday Inn. Do you play there? Wanna meet up when we are in town? | ||

I figured learning the fundamentals online would make more sense (I got cleaned the first few times I played in person - not sure that has changed!). I'm not sure about August, but definately wouldn't mind meeting up. Hell, you lecture on what I do wrong, I'll buy you dinner =p | ||

| Groovey. I'll take a free dinner any time :) And yeah, we'll meet up, talk shop a little, and if you can't make it out to the 'sino, I understand. Actually, Wren and I are going to be pretty busy doing family stuff that week and I have to spend a couple of days stomping around one of the islands looking for evidence of a landing by Chinese explorers (long story). I'm going to try to sneak in a 4 hour session at least. | ||

| :) Now that's positive EV! Its just a matter of work... mid August is when the project I'm working on is finishing up, so its not going to be easy. I'm sure I could meet up for an evening at worst. | That would be cool if they could have a registry with eveyone's names and we sign up like a regurlar tournament. Caitlyn said they would be more than happy to do this for us again. But doubted that we could get the money match. Which is understandable. And I'm with Wren. Once a month is more than enough! | I agree with the others that it shouldn't be more than once a month. First off, it gives us more time to dissect all the hands here and really make it a good learning experience. Secondly, a week is not nearly long enough for being the "reigning champion of UPF." I think the winner should be able to enjoy their bragging rights for a bit longer than that! Once again, great tournament, looking forward to getting my revenge in the next one. | ||

| I'm game for it, but I think once a week would be a little overmuch ... people probably wouldn't be so gung ho about showing up to every one. What about every 2 weeks or once each month? | ||
