Online poker real time stats monitoring (and success story), johnny, 17. Jul 2003 12:49 | ||

| I started playing poker in January. I was immediately hooked. I played (still do) in a weekly NL home game that gets pretty crazy some times. I lost over $1,000 in about three months. I then decided to slow down. I registered at pokerschoolonline.com so I could play for "free" for a yearly fee. I think this is a great investment for newbies because you're not betting real money, yet the players play like it is real money. There's real competition there; not this insane crap you see at the free money tables on the poker sites. Anyway after reading half of a poker book and zillions of articles online and this forum (most of my reading is done here at work. shhh, don't tell my boss.), and playing a lot at pokerschoolonline.com I decided to take another stab at online play for real money. I deposited money at PartyPoker.com about a month ago. I chose the site because of all the influx of fish I had heard about due to their advertisement during the WPT. I still didn't want to risk any real money, so I deposited $250 and got a 20% bonus of $50. I played .50/1 hold 'em until my bonus was released. I then withdrew my initial deposit. So from there on out it was all profit, and if I lose it all I've actually lost nothing I didn't have before. I am proud to report that about a month later I have turned that $50 into over $1,300. I have had only one loosing session out of my past 30 sessions. I realize I'm on a good run of cards, but the stories are true. The majority of the players at Party have no idea what they're doing (at least up through the 5/10 limit which what I'm dabbling with now). Play tight and you will make money. This finally brings me to my subject: real time stats. I keep my personal real time statistics always open. They keep me in check. If my "Flops Seen" percentage goes over 30% it's usually a sign that I'm playing too weak starting hands. I try to keep my "Showdown's Won" percent above 75%, "Flops Seen" below 30% and "Win % if Flop Seen" above 30%. At the very least the "Win % if Flop Seen" should be higher than the "Flops Seen" percent. Since I've been keeping an eye on these figures I've seen a noticeable increase in my bankroll and overall win percentage. SO, thanks guys (and girls) for all you advice. Because of you I am as of today "in the black" for my poker career. Now that I've posted this I'm sure I'll lose every bit of my money. ;) Johnny. | ||

| I would suggest that you stay in the lower limits for a while. $1,300 is not nearly a sufficient bankroll for 5/10 and it is very easy to get wiped out by a bad run of cards. With that size of roll, I would suggest you stick to the 2-4 until you at least double what you have got. | ||
