NL hand analysis, beigs, 17. Jul 2003 10:13

This is a hand I played in an SnG last night. I'm wondering if my inexperience at NL is shining through or if i just ran into a hand I couldn't have seen coming. Needless to say it crippled me. Thanks all.

I know I probably should have been more aggressive on the flop. Any other thoughts?

beigs-

yeah, you probably should have raised the flop, maybe made it 100. Then the guy with KK is likely to reraise to see where you're at and get some information a lot earlier.

Other than that, he basically slow-played you all the way and let you do the betting for him. I'm not so sure you could have seen it coming without the raise on the flop. An if he just calls your raise on the flop, you really don't know much more anyway.

I think the other guy trapped you pretty good by playing it slow. You had the perfect hand fot him to slowplay his pocket kings against. I say bravo for not loosing all of your bankroll.

I think your opponent played it TOO slow. He could have gotten burned by a better hand. But I don't see how you could have seen that coming. Personally I think I would have gotten toasted post flop. I would have bet huge at it 100+. Other guy probably would have raised me. And I (stupidly) would have gone all-in right there. I don't think there was anything you could do. If anything the T on the river should have scared him into thinking you had the str8.

Beigs,

You already said and were correct that you needed to be more agreesive pre-flop.

I also would have come over the top of him on the turn. Two reasons, one if you have the best hand let's get the $$ in there and two you would find out where he was.

After that I would be thinking what hands would he be calling your raise on and WHY isn't he raising if he keeps betting out? Do you think is on a flush draw?

A 30 bet in both spots would almost always feel to me like a trap. Why is he only betting 30? A with a small kicker, I doubt it. AK, nope. What could he have? To me the only thing he could have is AA or KK.

Have you ever played on the same table with him before?

AK is always a trouble hand in NL and ring games. You raised pre-flop and he continues to bet out at you.

On the river I would have checked. The only time he would call you is if HE had the winning had (at least I would only do it then).

It doesn't look like you were very far along in the SnG so why take a risk.

Hopes this make some sense.

Don

Though bad players in these Sit 'n' Gos will routinely make st00pid, small bets like this holding something like Ax or Kx.

I would have bet the flop very aggressively and hoped to take down the pot. 2 pair is a good hand, but easily beaten when you let chasers in for cheap.
