... or do any other small money players feel the same: If I lose $100 at a B&M table I can shrug it off. Doesn't bother me in the least. But if I lose $30 from my UB account if feels like a kick in the gut!

I'm with you on that. I dropped 50 bucks at Mohegan in 3 hours last week but I was terrified about entering a 100 dollar buy in tournament because I wasn't sure if I'd get it back. I suppose that's a good thing since my biggest fear of playing online was not being able to keep my mind on how much money I was losing since it's 'virtual dollars'.

Yes, I think that's the case. But I understand the feeling; I struggled with that for a long time when I started playing online. I think it was because I had this feeling like I didn't really know how much I was losing because I couldn't touch the chips. Once I recognized that it was irrational, I slowly started to feel better about it.

Case in point, I used to play only microlimits online, but I would play 3-6 and 4-8 at the B&M. Now I play 3-6 and 5-10 online too.

Me too. For me it's like when I add the dollars to the account, they're credits on a slot machine. The money is spent before I gamble!

It's more socialable too when you can see your opponents, you lose to the ones who have out played you, tip your hat to them and go on with your life. Online, it's sometimes a battle of egos and remarks that are often times misunderstood becuse you can't see them. I HATE the computer tell me that I made a stupid call and that the pot odds were against me!

I solved it by keeping track as I would the real tables.

I feel exactly the same way. I can walk into Brantford, drop $1000 in 6 hours, walk out the door shaking my head, and be emotionally neutral within minutes (well...sometimes a little longer than minutes). But if I sit down with $25 at a .25-.50 game on UB just to kill a little time and have fun and all of a sudden I blow out $10 I feel like the world is ending.

Strange that.

well losing $10 at a .25-.50 table would be the same as you losing that $1000 at a $25-$50 game... do you play that high of limits? If you lost $1000 playing at any game higher than 25/50, then your $10 loss is relatively bigger than your $1000 loss.

On the same note, I'm scared that if I play online I won't even believe I'm playing with my real, actual money... same reason I refuse to get a gas card... you guys are saying that it's actually the opposite?

I usually play the 10-20, so a 1000 blowout is a significant losing session. They are rare, but they happen.

Sure the magnitude of the loss compared to the limits being bet is equivalent, but a $1000 drop in my bankroll is much different than $10!

Exactly. So we are all wondering why we tilt over the $10 loss online, but shrug off the $1k loss at the b&m...

Because the $1000 loss is to people that I have taken thousands off previously. It feels more like an investment than a loss. The online $10 just seems to blow away in the wind.

Guys... let's show some compassion.. don't mention "$1000 drop" and "bankroll" in the same sentence around us poor people. It's just not nice.

TKarrde

P.S. I officially started a bankroll last time I hit the casino. I won about $50 and I added it to the $200 I have taken out of UB. It's hidden in my poker chip case. Don't tell the wife. Whoo hoo, watch out.

It ISN'T just you:-)

I play 15-30 at the B&M and I am just starting on line. I have played 10-25c 50-1 and 2-4. Even at the 10-25 I pound my keyboard or desk and scream at the "good plays" that others make.

I can lose $500 on a very bad day at the B&M and not get upset if I was playing well.

If I lose $5 at the other games I go on tilt!

I think that part of the reason that I too feel the online loss a lot more than a B&M loss is that if I lose $50 in an online game it is more of a pain to refill your account. Where as when you go to a B&M you have whatever cash in hand.

Good point. If I could just take money out of my jeans, put in into my disk drive, and play online, I wouldn't mind as much as having to fund it with my credit card.

You can put money in there? I thought that was a cup-holder.

TKarrde Hey I thought I was the only one who had that feeling,
At a BM it does not have the same impact. I'm more confident playing at a BM cardroom so if I get stuck I know I can play my way out. Online the games change so fast you might not have an oppurtunity to recover. 20 online is like 200 at a BM, don't know why.
