| I would first like to say thanks to all the great posters here at UPF. (You know who you are) Your answers to my questions along with your answers to others has helped my game tremendously. I know the standard way to calculate win rate is BB/per hour. I have played over 60,000 hands online since January and have now started to calculate my win rate another way. I have basically reduced it down per each hand dealt to me. I win 6 cents every time a hand is dealt to me. Keep in mind that I play 3 tables at once, averaging approximately 150 hands per hour. This play has been at all lower limits, .50/1.00 to $2/$4. I have just started to test the waters at $3/$6. The reason I like calculating my win rate this way is it helps to keep me in a postive frame of mind when cards are running badly or I have suffered some bad beats. It is my anti-tilt protection. Knowing that I make 6 cents every time a hand is dealt to me is a very positive approach for me. You see, I just didn't lose the $ 20.00 I put in the pot that went to the other guy, I won 6 cents! Hope this might be helpful to some. Once again, thanks to all you great posters out there. Spartan51 | ||

| Hi Spartan I approach hourly rate within my own mind the same way and find it helps me stay focused when cards go bad....I think you are on the right track for a Winning Psychology of Poker. | This is useful information to keep and it seems that you don't have a headache keeping it, but I would suggest that you also track your income per hour. Quite simply we live in a world where there is a finite amount of time to play cards and an hourly rate is a more reasonable approximation of how well you can supplement your lifestyle with poker. Basically, which would you rather be at, a table that plays 50 hands per hour where you are winning 6c per hand or a table that plays 25 hands per hour where you are winning 10c per hand? Obviously you want the 6c per hand as you are making $3/hour instead of the 10c/hand where you are making $2.50/hour. | ||

| Hi stdioh, I do in fact know my hourly rate as well. The point of "reducing it down to the ridiculous", that is, a per hand rate, is to always stay in a positive state of mind. It makes it much easier to dismiss a bad hand, a bad orbit around the table, etc. I think this helps me stay focused and play the best poker I can for each and every hand. As stated before, playing online I average approximately 150 hands per hour. Take that times my per hand rate (6 cents) and this would give you an hourly (online) rate. Thanks. | ||
