| I was searching through the site tonight, and I've noticed alot of stories about bad beats. Instead of the negative aspect of the game that we all know and hate, I was wondering if you can recall any great plays you've seen at a poker table. Ones that once your opponent flips his cards over, your mouth just drops and in awe.. like i would of never put you on that hand. Very well played etc.. hands like that!! Would really like some specific examples like position, pre flop action, flop; turn; and river action as well. Thanks Josh | ||

| I will tell you about what I consider to a great play that I made. I am in BB with 64 of spades. 4 people limp and button raises. Knowing the other player won't reraise, I call getting about 11-1 odds. Flop: 9d 5s 2h Everyone checks to the button who bets, I call with my inside straight draw. Everyone else folds. Turn: As Now I have a flush draw as well, I check with the intention to call. Button hesitates and then checks. River: Ah Almost instinctively, I bet. I have never in my life made a move llike this so I know no one at the table would have expected me to do it. My thinking was if he had an A he would have bet the turn. As I have no way to win the hand in a showdow (unless he is playing 63 which was the only had i could beat), I had to bet. He stares at the board, lightly pounds the table with his cards, and throws his cards face up to the dealer. His cards JT spades. I know that the other player actually lost this hand; however, if I don't make the bet on the end, I lose. To me, I made a pretty good play. | ||

| I was playing a .25/.50 NL Hold Em ring game at Planet Poker a while back, I'm in the big blind, there is one caller from middle position and the rest of the table folds to me, I elect not to raise and check, so it's me and one middle position player heads up. The flop comes Ah9s9c - I check, and there is a check behind me. The turn card brings 5h for a possible flush draw, I bet $2 into a 50 cent pot, and I'm called! The river brings 9h for a possible heart flush - I bet $6 dollars into the $5 dollar pot, but the other guy raises it to $12! I raise All-In my final $18 dollars, and I am called. My opponent shows Kh10h for the best possible flush...I turn over AsAc for the aces full house made on the flop. In the movie "Rounders" they say the key to no limit is "putting a man to a decision for all his chips" - I disagree somewhat, I say the key to no limit is sitting around patiently for someone else to do something stupid, like calling you on the river with a set when you have the nut straight, or calling your nut flush with a king high flush, etc. | ||

| This looks like the classic case of someone falling in love with his hand (him, not you--you had a right to love yours). Even after the third nine fell he did not consider you had an ace for the boat. He must have had laser focus on that flush. | ||

| Most of the time when I'm up against somebody and my mouth drops open on the river it is because they are very very stupid and got very very lucky. For instance when I went into a big pot with AA and flopped AK8 - rainbow, got tonnes of money in, and found that there was a player who called 2 bets on the flop then proceeded to make a backdoor wheel and win it all on the river. Of course I wasn't raising his river bet since there was a backdoor flush available on the river as well, but the fact that he had 34 and hung on to draw a 2 and a 5 made my mouth drop open. | ||

| I was on UB at a $25 NL table. I waited 5 hands for the BB. First hand as BB was bad and folded. Second hand as SB was Q10s with 5 callers. I limp in. Flop comes Q 10 6 rainbow. I check. Everyone checks to last player. He bet $2 to steal the pot I assume. I pause. I know I am going to raise but want to confuse him. Raise to $4. He pauses and calls. Turn is blank. I bet $5, he calls. River is blank. I bet $5, he calls. I turn over top 2 pair, he mucks. Next hand. I get A9s. I call. 5 others see pot. Flop comes. A72 with two cards my suit. I bet $3. get one caller. blank turn. I bet $5. Get called. River. Bet $5. Other player folds. Next hand get AKo. 5 callers. I raise to $1. BB calls. Everyone folds. A on flop. I bet $5. BB calls. At this point, my heart is racing so fast I think I should give up the game because I might have a heart attack. Can't believe my hands. To put it into perspective, my UB account is the only account I have a loss in. I was done almost $70 because of 0.50/1 ring games. I hadn't played UB for a month. Found $25 NL tables profitable at Party and though I would try my new strategy at UB. Earlier in the day, I played 3 sessions. Won $5, 3, and 2. Day before won $5 or so. I was only down $48 when I sat at this table. So after to big wins, I was really worried about lossing it all back. So I checked the turn and the river. Only to find he played A3o. Wish I would have bet the river, but I thought I was going to fall over as my heart exploded. A few days later, 2 visits to $25 NL and 2 $5 sit and gos, I show a profit of $17. Pretty nice since I thought about never playing at UB ever again. $17 gets me 3 more $5 sit and gos. :) | ||

| This one was at pokerstars... I went into a 0.10/0.25 with the idea to just work on readin the players - play for 20 minutes before bed kind of thing, work on a skill that I would use early on at a table. I should mention that I have been playing 400ppl tournaments and thus haven't won a thing, outside of a few bucks, at the normal table. I just haven't been playing (pokerstars tables are bad, tournaments are amazing!). Anyway, I play tight, of course, since I'm not really playing. Fold 8 or 9 hands. I get dealt 7d8d in the BB and get to see the flop for free. Comes up 569 rainbow. I slowplay and on a couple of raises go for the 2.50 in (10x BB bet!). I get called. This goes on till I'm all in (8.00 or so is mine). I win 18.xx. To cut the other hands short, it went like this... (all occured before I hit the BB again, so within 8 hands). 8d7d - Get straight on the flop, win 18.00 AA - A pops up on the flop, win 12.00 khJh - I get the nuts flush, win 8.00 AsKs - Get 2 pair, win 11.00 My 10 minutes of playing netted me 37.00. At a 0.10/0.25 table. So, I'll be playing some more tournaments now! | ||
