Final Table Play? Who gets the skirt?, Ippikiay, 14. Jul 2003 15:28 | ||

| I have an ongoing argument reference medium and small pair play on final table-No Limit Holdem. Looking for opinions please... Final table: 7 players 3rd position has $600 limps in $100. (I have 10 10 in 6th position--I'm thinking to raise $500. I have ~$2,200) 4th position folds. 5th position raises $500 with a bankroll of ~$ 2,800. Now what? I'm thinking call. Hubby is yelling fold. Then of course there is always reraise. Hubby yells loud. so I put on my little pink pom pom skirt and fold. After all it's only a $2.00 tourney and we're supposed to be enjoying ourselves not bumping egos. Still the scenario keeps repeating itself. So the question is out there-- Is it caution? This particular hand (the action now heads up with 3rd position all-in)the flop is KJ572 and 5th position happened to raise with AQ off. #3rd position stayed in the game by taking the hand with 99. I sat by in my little pink pom pom skirt and tried not to mumble too loudly under my breath. And that was that. | ||

| 1 $44.71 2 $37.84 3 $27.51 I made 3rd 4 $17.19 5 $13.75 6 $10.32 7 $8.59 8 $5.16 9 $3.43 10 $3.43 As I mentioned it was only a $2.00 tournament. Relaxing and just plain fun to win. :) . That's why I didn't want to get into bumping ego's with hubby and deferred to his yelling fold even though I wanted to call. So far...from the feedback it seems his was the correct play. He's smiling...so t'is alls well ends well. Input still very welcome. Always learning. I'm more familiar with Stud odds than those of Holdem. I read a couple of Caro's books and Brunson's. Anybody out there with a hold em book equivilant to George Percy's "7 Card Stud: The Waiting Game?" I wouldn't mind a good Holdem Reference Book. | ||

| Depending on the payout structure, there might be an argument for calling there, but in general, I would say the fold is the correct move. Since TT isn't a hand you want to play against more than 1 opponent and also is a bad hand to isolate a raiser with. Basically you have to assume that the raiser has a hand that is at least a coin flip to yours and at worst has you dominated. You really want to play hands like TT against a large group or heads up all in - since you won't know where you stand on the flop and are very unlikely to flop a set or an overpair. Thus, it is a perfect example of the gap concept. You can raise with this hand, but you can't call a raise with it. | ||
